I am about to sound so ungrateful, but I swear I am not!
My old office is throwing me a ‘surprise’ baby shower today. I figured that’s what was going on when they kept asking me what dates I would be in the office. I don’t talk to a lot of people in my office, and I keep my coworker friends list short. Well the shower is today and I am already overwhelmed.
I had my shower this past weekend, and invited some coworkers that I am friends with but none of them could make it. This morning my friend told me that ‘surprise’ shower was today because she knows I like to be warned. I was overwhelmed at my shower, so I can oly imagine this one. There will be people there that I have never talked to! And then I found out everyone had to pitch in $10. I did not dress to be in front of anyone since I thought I’d be in my cublicle all day.
I am trying to keep calm but these hormones are getting the best of me!
Someone understands, right?

@crysxo: I’m really sorry you’re feeling overwhelmed. :-/
It will be over in a few hours! Maybe just try to focus on the coworkers you are close with and keep them near you?

I totally understand. I’d be overwhelmed, too!
I realize it may be over by now, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If it’s a “surprise” nobody can expect you to be dressed up or to be prepared to talk to all the strangers you don’t know. I’d just find a comfy seat and let people come to you! Goodluck!

@crysxo: Awww. I understand. You’re allowed to fell overwhelmed. Luckily, since it’s a work day and it’s happening in the office it will most likely be super quick. It’s not going to go on for hours and hours because you all have things to do! If it does start to drag on, just say something like “Thank you all so much! This was amazing and I hate to do this but I have to call back a client” or whatever and get the hell out!

It’s a surprise shower. No one expects you to be all dressed up.
