We get the same annoying shipping issues in Canada. The worst is when you can't even purchase from a site because you don't have an American billing address. I have a shipping depot I use in upstate New York, but it's $5/package to pick something up, $10 if it's oversized. It's still a heck of a lot cheaper than shipping to Canada, but I also have to factor in gas, mileage, and the fact that I'll likely visit Target and go a little crazy while I'm there too ;)
I have an online store, and I had to find a courier that goes over the border once a week because it cost SO much to ship to my customers from here and I felt awful telling people shipping rates. It's like our postal trucks here run on liquid gold or something...
Yes the shipping rates from US to Canada are stupid. Usually it is free shipping in the US but some insane number to cross into Canada. Once I scored free shipping from US to Canada on a $500.00 purchase, I was a happy camper, but that is so rare. Frustrating!!
@bakerella: I'm inloved with a pair of Blue Notes jeans I got while in Canada a couple of years ago. They don't ship to Mexico! they only ship to the US and since I don't have a US address for them to ship to.. there's no way I can get them.
Yeah, I feel you. I even have an American address overseas (a military APO box on base) and they gouge us too. I just had the company I ordered my crib bedding from try and charge me $57 for shipping the bedding and then try and tell me it was going to take over a month to get here. In the states, it's $11 and 2-day shipping. Uncool.
So, I had them ship it to my mom and she's going to send it to me. Faster and cheaper. :)
@zippylef: I do something like that. FFIL's sister lives in California, everytime I really wnt something Ijust got it shipped to her and FFIL brings it when he visits. I've saved HUNDREDS of dollars since I'm a book worm. Amazon charges 4USD shipping per book to Mexico.

This might be a little vent, but it might work to let americans know how lucky you are.
This is the checkout page for an order of a 32USD pair of jeans. MXN means mexican pesos, shipping and taxes are higher than the item price. If I were in the Us the shipping will be free.
Ugh! I just hate international shipping rates!
