Yeah so FI and I got a sudden sexy influx of money and we decided to propell our wedding date up a year - which he always secretly wanted! So I ask you, my May 2011 sistas, how far along are you with planning and such? I've got an inspiration binder going and we've picked the venues (though we havent booked them just yet) but thats about it. I admit, I will totaly compare myself up against yall and decide if I'm good to go or a crippled turtle:P

First of all, Congrats!! This is exciting :)

You've so got this! It's very doable. All we have really done so far is just the major stuff that needs to be booked far in advance (coordinator, venue, photographers, honeymoon). We've chosen our bridal party, possible colors, and flowers. Sometime soon we will start looking at invitations! So...yeah, we still have a bunch to do!

    Good luck & Happy planning

I'm about the same.  Get your venue(s) booked asap because those do tend to fill up quickly.  I have venues, flowers, officiant and planner, and cake done.  I have an appointment in 2 weeks for the photographer and DJ.  After that it will be smooth sailing (I hope) with smaller details.

we booked our venue as soon as possible because most dates in may had been taken at the places we wanted around here(we got lucky that there was a cancellation between the 2 days we had called and had our appointment) and we have our photographer booked. and my dress and bridesmaids dresses are ordered. this week we go for flowers and the cake in a couple weeks.

I have the venue, photographer (well, sending deposit soon), baker, officiant, and wedding planner.

I also finish my STD and am almost finish with my invites (I'm DIYing). There are a long list of DIY that I am doing soooo....I have been trying to get the easy things done first and just storing them in my guest...errr wedding room ;)

I'm doing my dress and bridesmaid soon. I have what I like but want to try on before I buy.

Let me preface this by saying, FI and I got engaged in November and I started planing in June before we were engaged.

We've placed deposits on our ceremony venue, rentals for our outdoor tented reception and our photographer.  We've "booked" our florist and baker as they are friendors.

We've booked our officiant and are waiting on a call back to start our 7 hours of counseling sessions.

I've selected my dress, though I haven't purchased ordered yet because I just don't have that money yet.

I plan to DIY all of our stationary and so have designed the invites RSVP's and STD's.  I'm still working on a couple of the other enclosures.

FI's supposed to be working on the DJ, and I may ask him to get that done by the end of September.  He's another friend, but what if he's busy.

I think you can do this in 8 months, but it may depend on your area of the country.  In the area FI and I are planning we could do this whole thing in 5-6 months, but in other areas things book out over a year in advance.  I'd set a goal to get some of the big stuff (deposits on venues/vendors) done by the end of September and then start working on the smaller/prettier details.

Don't listen to the people telling you to slow down. My venue was 100% booked, as was my photographer, 11 months out from my wedding. Put your running shoes on and hit the ground ;-).

So far I have the venue, a photographer and baker booked. I am working on my caterer this week and just began researching DJ's. I have my dress and shoes, and bought FI's attire last weekend (tan suits will be harder to come by later in the year). We sent out STD's last month because half of our guest list will be traveling long distances to make it to the wedding. I have an idea of how I want my invitations to look, made reservations with the party rental place and I am slowly accumulating stuff for the wedding (lanterns for centerpieces, linen napkins, cake stands, etc.).
