@gingerspice:  In my personal experience with any bridal store I would much rather use a local seamstress.  Those bridal shops charge an arm and leg.  Again this is just a personal experience I have had.  Good luck to you!

Yes they do charge ALOT.. I have two bridesmaids (my sis and my bff) I bought their dresses from DB as a gift…The dresses were $160 + tax each…my sister’s alteration charge came to around $130ish!!! almost as much as the dress itself!

I got my wedding dress done there and they did a great job. How much they are going to charge you depends on what you need. I got mine taken in about 1/2 inch on either side. It was $80, but that’s a bridal gown which is alot more work than a BM’s dress. You should go in and price it, they’ll give you a price and you can look somewhere else if you think it’s too high. They didn’t seem to mind if I decided not to use them, they do (typically) know what they’re doing though.

They charged a friend of mine $600 for the bustle and hem.  I went to a seamstress and paid $250 for the bustle, hem, and had it taken in a bit.

Go local. I was charged around $300 for incorrect alterations. I had too many problems with DB
