@amandasouthcarolina:  Did they give you a sheet with the alterations cost? They’ll give you an estimate of what you need done. I wrote a post about it a while back in (Feb). I know for my hem it was going to be $95.

@amandasouthcarolina:  Didn’t go with DB. I decided to go to a local alterations shop and it ended up costing more but I liked the people. My alterations were pretty simple though.

I got my dress altered at DB and they did a great job. It was $195 total. I had about 2-3 taken off the length and the traditional American Bustle (I think that’s what they called it) done.  They also fixed any loose strings or beading issues and steam cleaned it as well.

I was a bit nervous as I’d heard to go elsewhere too for alterations but I didn’t have any issues with them.

I went with DB for my alterations and they did a great job. I paid $490 and that was to get my dress taken in at multiple places on the dress, cups added, hemmed, 5 point bustle added, a sash, the sash created and tacked on the dress, a slip, and a long line bra. They did a great job and I would have chosen them again if I went back in time. One thing to remember with their alterations is that you do pay ahead of time, not after the work is complete.

The alterations manager should have came out when you had the dress on before you said yes and told you what you needed and how much it would cost. My dress, just to be hemmed and bustled costed me $200. I had the 5 point bustle done and I don’t remember how many inches it needed to be hemmed. All this was done last summer.

Yes, you will pay the day they pin you, etc. – I didn’t know that so imagine my surprise when I was charged and nothing had been done yet!  It was $85 for a 6 point bustle and cups…  THEN, I was called back because there was an issue with the bustle and now it needs hemming…. So tack on another $120.  The woman saw me balk at spending more money so she lowered it down to $95.  I’m due to pick it up in a few weeks so I am holding my breath… :-/

Mine was about $450. It had a lot of layers, which they had to hem and bustle. I got it made a bit smaller and added cups.

I took my dress to a seamstress vs the store I bought it from…she is doing the hem, the bustle, sewing tulle over my petticoat, and taking it in and it is going to be about $300.
