It varies by dress - they have some that you can buy off the rack, but if you want a particular color it will take a month or so to order it. Some of the Vera Wangs and Oleg Cassinis may take longer. On the other hand, I ordered my dress in June and was told it would arrive in October, but two weeks later, I got a call from the shop saying it was in!
You normally order the dress from DB. 99.9% of the dresses you order, though I have heard some off the rack.
It depends on what dress you pick. If they have the dress in your size they will try to sell it to you off the rack, which IMO I would not buy because it's dirty and others have worn it. I tried on a dress and they said it would take 25 weeks to come in! That's like 6 months.
I think it can go either way, depending on the dress.
I know that the White by Vera Wang dresses are so popular, it appears they made so many of them they are coming in within 2-3 weeks!
In my experience, I tried on a sample and than ordered it. It literally came in, in about a month! Although I'm sure they can take longer to get in depending on the dress and availability
I didn't buy my dress at DB, but I went there when I first got engaged and their main selling point to me was that the dresses you buy there are off the rack. I know other posts have said it can go either way, but that's what they stressed to me. She said "you don't have to wait 4-6 months for the dress b/c with us, you can take it home today." That turned me off but could be a good selling point for others.
Most you order -and they tell you it takes a million years! haha ok j/k but they'll tell you 9+ months for it to come in. Which I think is ridulcous they're a huge chain and should have every size in every dress ready to ship. I got my jcrew bridal gown in 3 days. yes three days! anyway. I'd go now and start asking questions early.
I bought mine off the rack and for 50% off. Pretty sweet deal!
I had to order my dress because I'm tall and needed extra length. To my surprise it came in after two weeks as opposed to months!!!
I could have taken a regular length dress home with me, but mine had to be special ordered..
I ordered my dress from DB and it came in within 2 weeks. I WOULD NOT buy off the reack. Even if they had your size, I would ask that they order a new one.
I bought mine off the rack, and it's SO. NICE. not having to worry about when the dress is going to come in.
DB has a huge warehouse somewhere stacked to the ceilings with these dresses. So they seem to come faster. But I bet the Vera Wangs will take longer if they are hugely popular. Its the same for any dress maker for the most part, if they have one in the warehouse ready to go and its your size you will get it. My dress I ordered in the beginning of Nov. and its not coming in until the end of May. Its not DB either.
Those of you who bought off the rack: Did you get a discount because technically the dress you bought was not new, or did you get something else for free instead?
I bought mine off the rack. I did not get a discount for doing so because there was not once speck of dirt or makeup on it. My person said it was one that was in the back that hadn't been tried on yet and it didn't look like it had.

Please excuse my dumb question -- at DB, do you buy the dresses off the rack or do you need to order them 4-6 months ahead like at most places? Or does it vary by dress?
