LAX03:  I’m with you, I let my girls pick their own dresses but one wanted to check out DB with me, what a weird experience.  It makes a big difference which store you go to, we first went to one in a poorer area of town and had no attention from the attendants whatasoever (not even on our way out, if we’d wanted to buy a dress we would’ve been out of luck).  Then we went to the snazzy one in Scottsdale, the location used to be a Priscilla of Boston and it still looks like one, it’s the prettiest DB in the county I think.  And it was fantastic customer service.  Not cool DB, everyone deserves to be treated well, not just the richy rich clientele.

I hope you get your dress ok!

I had a great experience at the Lexington DB and my dress was amazing.  Like anywhere, it just depends….

sounds like you have a bad franchise…I went to DB for a friend’s wedding to look at dresses and they were very helpful and attentive.

LAX03: I’m with you! I’ve been there twice, once for a bridesmaid dress, and once to look for my own wedding dress, and both times, I left feeling so utterly discouraged! Their service is awful, and being pointed at racks upon racks of dresses in garment bags and being told go pick out what you want with NO assistance is really overwhelming. It was my first time shopping for a dress and I did the best I could, but after helping me into one dress, the attendant disappeared. I tried on the rest myself, none looked right because I had zero guidance about “hey this is how you clip it on” or “maybe there is a more flattering style for you” or anything. There was more to it, but basically the whole process was awful and I couldn’t get in the mood to go dress shopping again for months! Haha. But don’t ya know, they certainly were on top of calling and emailing me a million times to see if I had decided what I wanted to buy from them…. oi.

I refused to deal with David’s bridal. Ive gone other times and I always view it as a bridal warehouse. We go this weekend to get dresses for my girls and they will be more costly but this shop is small going above and beyond for us which I like.

To be fair, I had an amazing experience at David’s Bridal with a lovely, helpful consultant who was not at all pushy (didn’t end up buying through them, but I would have if I had fallen in love with any of their dresses). It seems to be a bit of a crap shoot, but they do have some great staff there if you get lucky.

LAX03:  I chose David’s Bridal because I had some girls on tight budgets and they were the lowest I found. I think their dresses are decent (though they look awful on the website) and they had the exact color I wanted. That said… I would NEVER choose them again.

-One BM lives in a different state and she ordered her dress there. First, they ordered the wrong style. Next, they returned that style, ordered the “right” one, the same dress as the first time showed up. She finally made a scene and stormed out. She re-ordered off the website so she didnt have to deal with the store and they mailed it to her – but-  they forgot to write her apt number on the label so it got returned.

-I had most of my girls order to the store we shopped at (theyre scattered) and I picked them up and distributed. They claimed my SIL’s dress was not there, even though I got the email. Apparently the lady couldnt find it in the back room because it was a different style of dress than the other one I was picking up.

They suck.

I went to a David’s Bridal Collections for my wedding dress and got awesome boutique-style customer service and attention. My mom went to David’s Bridal in Slidell Louisiana and got shitty service, shitty alterations, and had an all around shitty time.

I generally don’t approve of DB. But the DB Collections store was awesome.

I have had two AWFUL David’s experiences in NYC. My best friend was there trying on wedding dresses and us maids were looking at bridesmaids dresses also. The consultant wouldn’t listen to her and kept pulling dresses that my bff specifically said she did not want. When it was time for us to try on bridesmaids dresses, she only gave us one dress to try on, threw it in the dressing room, and left us alone the rest of the time. She didn’t even bother continuing with neither the bride or me or the other bridesmaid. We had to of been there for only 20 minutes. I had overheard another consultant asking her how it was going and in the snobbiest voice with an eye roll she goes “UGH. WORST – APPOINTMENT – EVER!” – I called her out saying wow, you barely even helped us! We grabbed our things and ran out ASAP. Unfortunately, I needed to return to this store to buy a longline bra for my own wedding. I was in the area and decided I would pop in real quick to buy the bra. They told me I needed an appointment. I was like really? I know exactly which one and what size, can’t someone just hand it to me? She rudely replied no. I said fine, I’ll wait til there’s an available consultant cause I really needed it. 15 minutes later I went back to the front telling her to just make me an appointment for later and I would come back on my way back out of town when she said again rudely replied FINE SOMEONE WILL TAKE YOU NOW! She called over a consultant who was just as rude, took me to the back, to only find out they didn’t even have the size available that I needed. When we walked back to the front, the hostess or whatever you want to call her told my consultant to take another bride, she quickly replied “I don’t want anyone!” and ran off. I haven’t heard one positive experience from any of my friends that have been to any David’s.

I’ve been to David’s Bridal for my dress, my 3 bridesmaids’ dresses, and my FMIL’s dress. We had an amazing consultant, the manager of the store was very helpful, and all the staff were generally pleasent to work with. Alterations was tough to deal with, they’re super busy and so we understood that, but otherwise it’s been an awesome experience.

I’m dealing with a David’s Bridal in Ontario, Canada, though and so I imagine we’ve got a little bit of a different atmosphere to it. They really work hard to make sure everybody has a special experience, regardless of how crazy busy and high volume they know the store is, and I honestly found most consultants were super defensive of their brides and purposefully booked them during weekday hours when it was calmer (I so appreciated that). I still go in and my consultant comes over and chats with me, knows my whole family/bridesmaids/FI by name, it’s awesome 🙂

Sorry you had rough experiences with them though, it just shows that every store is different.

LAX03:  This is going to sound so snobby and elitist, but oh well…. What do you expect from a box store that sells overprices polyester gowns (Disclaimer- I bought my dress on ebay for $500)

I was lucky in that my DB experiences have been fairly positive.

I always think it’s funny how people comment that the consultants don’t care. Of course they don’t care, they’re paid minimum wage. That is like asking the cashier at Starbucks to care (only they typically get paid more). Also thenway that company runs through staff no wonder there are so many attitude problems (it’s not like their treated particularly well either).

My experience was lovely as well. I hear some can be really awful, full of rude people but the one I stopped in was really nice. It was mostly the saleslady to helped me with the dress trying-on that kept me there. I was really hesistant to go into a bridal store but she really made it a great time.

It’s too bad there are so many terrible ones…it’s already looked down on as being a chain bridal store, they really should work on improving their image.
