- Wedding: May 2013
And the drama continues, and ended with my first mental breakdown of the wedding planning process… On the day before my birthday of all days.
I decided to go in to DB and take care of sh*t myself, instead of waiting on my family to do it. I went to DB on Thurs March 21 with my Future Mother-In-Law up here in my college town, and I must say I went in there with a really good, postive attitude, sure that they would be able to fix it.
That attitude paid off, because the lady at the front desk checked other stores in the state and found a copy of my dress! 🙂 They told me that it would be delivered to the college store the next monday, and I was super excited about that. The college store then told me that thier computer said hometown DB wasn’t even searching for the dress at all, AND they had another of the same dress same size, get this, IN STOCK! The receptionist from the hometown DB also started badmouthing me to the receptionist from the college store. The lady at college store was shocked. Hometown said that I was lying about the condition of the dress, that I had ruined it, and that they were going to make sure I had to wear the original dress on my wedding day. This was super stressful, but I held it together and decided that if it would come to that, I would get corporate involved.
The next day, my Fiance and I had some errands to run, and I forgot my phone at home. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad that I did that. When I got home, I had a really nasty voicemail from hometown DB that I ordered my dress from. The lady was screaming at me for not picking up my dress and kept saying that they had been calling me for days about it (which was a blatent lie. For one, they should not have been contacting me at all [parents asked for them to be primary contact] and i had 0 missed calls).
My Fiance heard the voicemail and got so upset that HE called my mom, who was with my dad and about 5 miles from the store at the time. They listened to my voicemail, and then immediately went over there to get to the bottom of it. My parents talked to the manager who had called me and left me that awful voicemail. She said she was unaware that the dress was stained at all and that alterations had been telling her that the dress was fine and I was over reacting.
They pulled out my dress, and lo and behold, it seems clean. So my mother starts “nitpicking” every little detail, according to my dad, and they can’t find anything wrong with it. It dawns on my mom to pick up the apron peice of the dress and she sees it. The stain is WORSE. she said it looked like someone had poured chicken grease down the front of the dress.
The manager apologizes profusely (but never to me, which I know I won’t get one, but I still deserve on for the way she yelled at me), and they started searching other stores for the dress. They find out it is coming to college DB, so they decided that when it gets shipped up here, i can look at it, then it will be shipped down there for me to come down and get fitted and then have the alterations department “try again”.
I talk to my mom and she says just go to college DB and we will get everything taken care of. My dad however, was under the impression that I would be coming down again that weekend, and so he asked to get the dress shipped to charleston.
I call the college DB on Monday to see if the dress is in, and they tell me that I can’t have it, that I have to go to hometown DB, and I decide its best for me not to flip out over the phone, so I head to the store with Future Mother-In-Law. on the drive, I call my dad to ask him what is going on, and he doesn’t answer.
When I get to the store, everything is worked out, and my dad calls me back, so I try to explain to him what happened, and he just starts screaming at me. So I raised my voice back. He told me that college store didn’t have my dress (he had spoken to the angry manager earlier that day) and that I had to get everything taken care of in the hometown store so he could see, and that was my breakiing point. I scream at him and say “I don’t want to get alterations done down there, they f*cked it up last time”. and then he starts getting even more angry, like he went ballistic. So i hung up on him, turned off my phone, and went inside the store and just sobbed to my Future Mother-In-Law.
The college store went into the back and pulled out my dress, and I put it on. I fell in love all over again. It was great. then I decided I had sufficiently called down enough and I would apologize to my dad for cursing at him, so I called him back. He again started screaming at me for being at the college DB in the first place, and i started crying again. He told me he was “done with the wedding and me and my mom can take care of this bullshit without him” which made me cry even more. he then hung up on me, so I called my mom at work.
Her boss (who is my cousin) answered and I was literally choking back tears as I asked to talk to my mom and she hung up on me. So I called again, and this time she is a total B*TCH, she answered with “What do you want” to which I said Ï really need my mom (Moms name) right now”, then she screamed my moms name and yelled at my mom for taking a personal call at work. Mind you it is now 6pm, my mom was supposed to be off at 5, and she never gets personal calls. My mom answers and she hears I am upset and all I can get out is “I had a fight with daddy” and then she says I will call you back in a few minutes when I get off. So she gets off the phone, and I sit in the floor of the dressing room and bawl.
My phone starts ringing, and its my dad. I answer it, and the first thing he says is you were right, they do have your dress, and you can get everything taken care of up there. He apologizes for hurting my feelings and making me cry, and we are all good, and then he gets off the phone. my mom then calls me about 3 minutes later fuming. She called corporate and had left a voicemail with the district manager about how I was standing in one of her stores bawling over this huge mess. I am not sure if DB corporate ever called back.
I was able to get fitted that night in my dress, and I found out that the hometown store overcharged about $100 for alterations. the college store was shocked that they had gotten so high. I will be able to pick up my dress during the last week of April, and hopefully nothing will be wrong because I will only have a month until the wedding after that.
TL;DR: my hometown David bridal ruined my dress, college DB saved the day, I pick up my dress in a month.
