@Blackie:  DB experiences vary a huge amount depending on the location.  I am a DB bride and loved my expereince.  The tips I have are: go shopping at an off time, if you go on a Saturday afternoon it will be a madhouse.  be prepared that it is not a luxury retailer where a salesperson caters to your every whim, most of the salespeople are great, but they usually help two brides at a time.  it helps to be prepared, you have a limited time so if you have an idea of what you want (esp, in terms of sticking to your price range), so that you can maximize the time of your appointment.  DB is a pay in full retailer, many other retailers will let you pay part down and the rest later, DB is a pay in full.  Above all have fun!

Hopefully you aren’t plus size, Davids Bridal doesn’t carry any vera wang plus size.. at least the one I went to didn’t. When questioned, my sales rep said that Vera Wang wasn’t made for larger women.

@Blackie:  You should be okay.

The david’s I went to [which was in the US], didn’t have anything in Vera above a size 4… I wanted to try on this beautiful tulle gown but they just didn’t have anything.

@Blackie:  Congrats! I was afraid of David’s after some horror stories that I read about. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised at my great experience. As PP said, you will not get one on one attention, but I liked this, it gave me a chance to visit with the family that I brought without someone hovering over me. I went in with a list of 5-6 dresses that I wanted to try and was able to try all of them without feeling rushed. We also went on a Saturday, but it wasn’t too bad. The first time we went, we didn’t know that you had to make an appt, so we went back the next Saturday and it was very smooth. The dressing rooms are small and it got a little warm for me, but otherwise I was very happy. I ended up going with the first dress that I tried on. We got jr bridesmaid dresses there and I am ordering STD, invites, RSVP’s, etc through their web site vor a very reasonable price. Have fun!!

I heard a few bad reviews but went anyways, I’m a Canadian Bride and where I am, we just got our first DB like just under a year ago. They were so nice to me. They let me walk through and pick what I liked and then the salesperson looked at what I picked myself and brought in a few similar styles. I found my dream dress and she told me I could even go a size smaller! (I don’t know if this is rare or not but when I went with my friend to a different bridal shop the attendant kept telling her she had to go bigger or order that exact size because there was no way she could lose a whole size – just generally being a nasty person) Anyways, I picked a dress, put a small deposit on it and left, came back a few days later paid the rest off my dress and took it home..

I do still have to go back to get some alterations, just basically getting it hemmed but want to wait in case I do actually lose weight, or god forbid gain some. I was told that would be absolutely no problem, just to give a call when I wanted to get started on that. All in all I had a great experience.

I was in love with the Vera Wang line online.  The pictures are gorgeous.  But I was super disappointed when I saw them in real life.  The fabrics look really cheap in person- so much so that there was only 1 of her dresses I even wanted to try on after drooling over a bunch of different ones online.  I was surprised to be pretty impressed by the cassini line. I liked the styles of the Vera Wang line so much more online, but the Cassini dresses had much nicer looking materials

@Blackie:  When we were in the dressing room, the sales lady told me that my aunt had asked for her to pull a certain dress for me. She said she didn’t, because it was way over my budget. I thanked her and discreetly let my aunt know. I guess it depends on the sales person.
