Hi. I'm in the same situation, my ceremony is at 4 with reception immediately following . . . but not allowed into the Greenhouse to decorate and set up until 4. What? Doesn't make sense. So, I did hire a DOC. I interviewed a few and the one that I had the best rapport with I knew was going to be my girl. And, I even haggled her "opening bid" so that it would fit into my budget. Even if the decorating time was earlier, I knew that I didn't want myself, Mom, MOH, anyone to be running around and setting up. I want everyone to relax and enjoy the day. So, I highly recommend hiring a DOC. For me, I am positive it will be worth the expense.
Hi- I was starting to worry about the same thing, but when I met with my reception site manager, he offered to have his workers do it for me. He just requested a photograph of how we wanted them set up. He also did not request anything extra either which was great!
If he had not offered, I was going to have some friends of my aunt's who are not attending the wedding to do it for me. Good Luck!
As a wedding coordinator, I cannot express how helpful a DOC can be. You will soon experience the stress days leading up to your wedding day, and many brides in hindsight wished they had a DOC so they could've fully enjoyed their entire wedding day. Not everyone can afford a DOC, but it never hurts to shop around and find someone who will work with you. Also, you can ask some reliable friends to help out as well, but just remember, they are foremost your guests, not hired help.
Always ask your reception first to see if they have any workers who can set up for free or a very small fee.
Good luck!
The contact at my reception site said the catering company (exclusive to the venue) will set up centerpieces, etc... as long as it isn't too complicated (ie they won't arrange flowers, but they will add water/set out vases...). Try that option first.
Thanks, I will try to ask the event coordinator at the reception site first. I think she said that they are there to help us with making the wedding day run smoothly without the needing to hire a wedding coordinator, but I'll ask how much they are willing to do.

For those of you who did DIY centerpieces or decorations for the reception, how did you find the time to set up everything during the wedding day. Did you ask family and friends to set up for you or hire a day of coordinator? I am having my wedding at a museum and we can't set up until around 4. The ceremony starts at 6:30. I already know that I won't have time to set up because I have to get ready and take formal pictures with the bridal party before the ceremony.
