Hi Bees! Can anyone in the DC area recommend a dance instructor?  We'd like a series of private lessons in at least swing (pref. west coast) and foxtrot.  We both have some basic swing experience already, and we'd like a choreographed first dance.  Someonewho also does smaller group lessons would be especialy great.  Anywhere in the DC/MD/VA area is fine, but Arlington would be the best.  Cost is not really a concern.  A good instructor is the most important thing!  So, any suggestions?  Thanks!!

We took private lessons from Paul Mola and he's fantastic!  He teaches out of his full-size studio in his home near Rockville, MD.  He's been teaching for 30+ years.  He is an excellent instructor and a pleasure to work with!

We had no ballroom experience and learned a Viennese Waltz for our first dance.  We took weekly lessons from Paul to learn/choreograph the dance.  It was a big hit at the wedding!  We had so much fun that we're continuing with group lessons.  We've already learned foxtrot, swing, waltz, rumba, hustle, etc.

I can PM you with Paul's info...

I second Paul Mola!  We had a great experience.  On the day of, my husband totally choked, and then my bussle fell out and he stepped on it and we got all tripped up, so our first dance wound up just being the foxtrot box step over and over because we couldn't even spin with him standing right on my dress, but the lessons themselves were a blast, and I'd be game to give it another go, in either a properly-bussled dress, or something a tad more form-fitting!

i highly recommend Kim, from http://www.firstdanceimpressions.com/

She taught us the tango which was a HUGE hit at our wedding for our first dance.  Her studio is in Annandale and she can do whatever package/hours/dances you want/need.  She was so good and KNOWS how to teach a person who has never danced before (freestyle or anything for that matter) understand the mechanics and ideas of dance.  For us that equaled to confidence and a great performance on our first dance.  Good luck and have great fun =)
