So for those bees not in the DC area we are supposed to be getting up to 2.5 feet of snow this weekend!!! It is crazy how people are acting already! Our snow shovel broke and we were trying to find a new one. Last night we went to Home Depot and Sears - sold out. Then today I called 4 Lowe's, 5 Home Depot's and 5 Targets and they were ALL sold out!!! The thing that Im upset about is that this weekend my FSIL will be in town and we were going to do our first round of bridesmaid dress shopping with her, another BM and my MOH. AND I was supposed to pick up my dress from the store and take it to the tailor for my first fitting!!! Looks like none of that will be happening!! Im sure you Midwest/Northern bees are like oh 2.5 feet thats not TOO bad....well in DC people freak out over the slightest bit of snow so as you can imagine this is like the SNOWPOCALYPSE!!!!!!!

I cant believe how much snow weve gotten this year!! It has been a very strange winter for sure!!! And yes, our entire area will shut down! I will be safe because you can bet I wont be one of the people trying to navigate the snow covered roads!

@missribbons - I was surprised the feds didnt close yesterday to be honest!! Or at least have a 1 or 2 hour delay! Its not supposed to start snowing until early afternoon tomorrow so I dont know if they will be closed but if it gets really bad real fast then I think theyll probably do an early closure. ANd who doesnt love going home early on a Friday!?

Ha!  It's worse here in Georgia!  When there's even a slight chance of snow flurries, the grocery stores run out of beer and bread!

NO MORE I am tired of snow T.T

I was certain that Ms. Ribbons was 45 minutes down the road, where they've gotten it worse than where I live.

But now I can't seem to find that tidbit of info.  Ah well.

megan, during the december snow, BF's ~25 minute drive took two hours.

All of my friends that have lived north of PA always make fun of how people in VA flip out over a dusting.  I had to explain to BF that "when they show us the news of NY/NJ/North, it's always these ridiculous amounts of snow.  They don't really show us much else.  That's why everyone goes "Oh, NJ/NY?  Must be frigid"."

Ugh, I am so sick of snow in DC. When the last storm hit in December, we got about 1.5 feet in one day in the city. I was supposed to fly that day, but they closed all the airports. Such a nightmare. Thank god I am not planning to travel this weekend. I only wish it would snow on a weekday already so that we could get a snow day off from work!

I grew up in Buffalo, NY where a bad snowstorm is 7 ft of snow. Even then, it only took a few days to clear things out and stores/schools to open back up. I remember once, driving from Buffalo to Oswego and the roads felt like tunnels because of the mounds of snow on the shoulders- exceeding 5 feet! Now that's a snowstorm!

I've also lived in DC! I feel so bad, Clarebee- I hope you're able to continue on with your weekend as planned!

Hey!  I'm in Arlington too, and I was just at the Harris Teeter this morning; they've restocked.  I was able to get TP, water, ice melt, eggs, milk, bread, etc.  They had a ton of employees working on restocking when I was in there, and two 18-wheelers had pulled up too.  :-)

It is definitely the snowpocalypse!!  And I hear we're supposed to get another 3-5 inches on Tuesday/Tuesday night.  I'm going to South Carolina next weekend for President's Day weekend, and I had better not miss that trip - I want to see my grandmother!

Also, I am fully expecting my daughter to be in school until July at the rate we're going, LOL.

Yup! That's how it is around here too.  We're nearly out of salt, and wanted to buy another shovel and some of those creosote burning logs.

I think we'll try tonight, and hope the local hardware shop isn't swamped.

I'm nervous! What sucks is that the snow is starting tomorrow, but since I'm an essential employee, regardless of the leave policy, I'm still expected to show up. Boo!

I set up a safeway delivery order for Saturday morning, and although I know it will be hell, I'm stocking up a bit at Trader Joe's in Foggy Bottom tonight, heh.

I'm pretty sick of the snow too. And, like my MOH says, why do the big ones have to be on the weekends?? It's like it's on purpose, so we don't have days off from work :-P

I'm supposed to go pick up my dress on Saturday... The seamstress is in Rockville and I live near Annapolis... Yeah, I should probably call her and see if the dress is ready so I can pick it up tomorrow instead, or else I'll just have to pick it up later in the week.

My MIL went to the local Safeway (Nutley St. )earlier this morning and the lines went from the front to the Meat Counter in the back. She turned around and  left. They went to Trader Joes on 236 in Fairfax.

From the front page of today's newspaper:

    "Another weekend, another winter storm"

And at the top, there is a lovely little bar graph.

2009-10 Snowfall inches through Feb. 2

    Anchorage, AK:  36.4;  Blacksburg: 35.3; Boston: 28.5; Chicago: 32.0; Cleveland: 26.7; Denver: 40.2; Fargo, N.D.: 37.7; Green Bay, Wis.: 28.2;  Minneapolis: 29.9;  NYC: 15.3;  Pittsburgh: 28.3;  Portland, Maine: 33.8;  Roanoke: 29.7; DC:  26.1

They mean to tell me that we have gotten more snow than NYC?  Blasphemy!

Wow - that pic from DCist is nutty!  It definitely wasn't that bad at the H-T in Arlington this morning, but I'm sure it will be tonight.  I'm SO glad we went early!  My DH's boss has just told his whole office to work from home tomorrow, and I got an email from my daughter's school just now saying that they will close early, if they open at all.  Sigh.
