We have 2 hotel blocks in Dupont Circle.  We want to have a sort of welcome cocktail party for our many out of towners the night before the wedding.  I just don't know a good place to do it.  There are so many options! We want some bar food and drinks, nothing too fancy and nothing out of control party party either.  I'm picturing a calmer lounge with good drinks and food where people can hear each other talk.   We also want to stay in Dupont as it's most convenient.  Any suggestions?

Hm...  any thoughts of asking one of the hotels if they have a space to accomodate you?  You could get your own food/drinks and probably save money that way, too.

Pizzeria Paradisio is one of my favorite restaurants in Dupont...but the space might become an issue for you since I don't think they have a good area for groups (I went there with a group of 14 once and it took 2 hours to be seated).

Front Page is always good, as well.

Wow, you're right, this is hard.  There are SO many good options that narrowing it down is tough!

I would also suggest Front Page-- it isn't pricy, but it is nice. I also love James Hoban's and they will allow you to reserve a room in the back.

I was beat to it, but I was also going to recommend Front Page.

Since you said lounge, I was going say Midtown Loft because they have the pool tables and the 10 seater tables, and (as long as you stay in the Loft) it's very relaxed, but they don't do food.  My second thought would be Dirty Martini since they do have food.  If you want a restaurant and you're looking for a quiet spot, I agree that the back of Front Page is good (stay away from the front) but, and I admit I haven't been there in years, aside from the corner by the bathroom stairs it's just people eating dinner-not really hanging out.  I'd also recommend Public.  It has lounge/couch seating, bar seating, booth seating, sports bar seating, outdoor seating, food, and it's 3 floors -their kitchen closes at 10 tho.

How about Eighteenth Street Lounge. It is a small lounge in Dupont that has a good vibe. I regret that I haev not eaten the food so I can not give a big plug for that area.  But it does have what you are looking for.

Darlington House is a great space and has a budget-friendly hors d' menu - it was too small for our reception, but would be perfect for your event!
