Hi Emily,
This is what my husband and I did. We got married in Virginia at the Arlington Court House. There is not a wait and our friend was able to marry us.
Or if you want an officiant. I was going to use this person, http://www.weddingsbylance.com/, but I really wanted my friend to marry us.
Good luck
Lolamd
Check out Celebrants in your area! It's where I was trained, and they will work with you to completley customize your ceremony how ever you'd like it to be.
@dorsay - thanks so much for the recommendation - I actually emailed Laura Cannon awhile ago, but I believe she was booked.
@Jessieblum - thanks for sending me to the Celebrants site! I've always enjoyed your posts, so I ended up contacting them for recommendations in my area. My FI and I are meeting a Celebrant next week - fingers crossed it goes well!!

I'm getting married in DC next May, and need to find an officiant. My FI and I are totally non-religious, so we don't have anyone obvious to marry us.
I'd love to have one of our friends marry us, but I'm getting the feeling that DC is incredibly strict about allowing random people who have been ordained (say online) to legally perform weddings. Has anyone gone through the process of getting a friend/relative legally qualified to marry within the District? Is it possible/worth it?
Another option is to find a non-denominational officiant - does anyone have any suggestions? I'd really like someone friendly and down-to-earth. I don't mind if they're religiously affiliated, as long as they don't mind not mentioning God or the Church.
Thanks for any/all suggestions!!
