I don’t know who Max Wanger is.. but what are you looking for for the 3k?  I did a ton of research into photographers and may have some names for you to check out!

My photographer has an associate who is based in Loudoun.  She told me that her associate photographers are taught by her (and 2nd shoot with her early on).

Her associates are great photographers who just don’t want to deal with operating their own businesses.  She only has one up in Loudoun and one (maybe two?) down here in Cville.

Tell her I told you about the associate.  I don’t know their name, but I’m sure she’ll be happy to send you pricing info and examples of the person’s work.

My photog is AMAZING!  I have to imagine that her associates will be awesome, too. 🙂  If you love her work, she definitely does work up there, too.

Stacey Windsor shot a friend of mine’s wedding and the pics turned out great! Pretty sure she’s affordable and they said she was wonderful to work with

My photographer is Ken Pak and he has packages within that range.  I did a ton of research on photogs and was so happy when I found him AND was able to afford him.  He’s phenomenal.

Nessa K or Sam Hurd are the best DC area photographers I know of.  Not sure if they can be had for $3000, but they are definitely worth the upgrade if you can swing it.

@alliefly:  Katie’s packages start at $4,000. She’s amazing, of course!  I think the OP will want to stick with people who shoot digital to keep costs down.

When we started we were going to use our friend, but he was already booked on our wedding date. 🙁

He’s a photojournalist for the Washington Times, but he does wedding photography on the weekends.

Then I found Sam Hurd, whose portfolio I adore (especially his portraits), but he was also booked on our date! Grr! And we started looking 10 months in advance!

Sam referred us to Leo Druker who we chose as our photographer. His portfolio was fantastic and his travel photos are stunning!

http://www.leodruker.com (check out the blog for the travel photos)

Our runner up was:

Leo and Eikon were close to the 3000 mark (a little over) but that did not include prints.

Hope that helps!

We used Madeline Marshall. I don’t know Max’s style, but she is a journalist, so she doens’t do any artistic shots. But we loved her photos (exactly what we were looking for) and here prices  are good (I think her most expensive package is under $3000).

@whitenights:  We went with Rachel Naft of RMN Photography.  I think her basic packages are in your price range – we spent a bit more than that, but there were definitely other options for packages!

Other ones we seriously considered were:
Carmen Wang
Debi Parker
Erin Marie Photography
Jeanne Sun (she was my 2nd choice!)
Rodney Bailey

We also met with Philip Kent and absolutely hated it (I felt like he was acting like a used car salesman) and basically kept telling me how fantastic he was, but also made statements like “Oh, a DC wedding?  I hate going into DC” (he’s based in Tysons). Seriously, I tell you my wedding is in downtown DC and you tell me you hate DC? what the heck?

Also, I personally liked Sam Hurd’s work, but my mother hated it, so I didn’t end up interviewing him, but had my mother liked him, he would’ve been on my short list!

@dashwoodgirl:  I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but do want to give you a heads up.  My friend used Ruben for her wedding photographer and almost ended up having to take him to small claims court for breach of contract.  He was late to start taking photos and left before the reception ended (before the father/daughter dance, first dance, and mother/son dance).  He also lied to them about some of his retouching and tried to tack on extra fees after the wedding.  I just want you to be aware so you can make sure he’s doing all he’s supposed to!
