Overall Budget: I think we ended up somewhere between $18-20k, but for a small crowd. We chose to pamper a small group of our best people.
ADVICE: Know your own vision and stick to it. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want or do things in a different way than they are usually done. And choose vendors who support and encourage you to fulfill your vision. We chose our florist because I offered up 2 different bouquet ideas. The one that I was head-over-heels in love with was somewhat avante garde, so I also offered up a somewhat more traditional option. Our florist took one look at my avante garde bouquet and said "Oh my god, that is fabulous. We HAVE to do that one." She understood my vision, made it her own, and ran with it. On our wedding day I knew our flowers would be perfect because the florist was 100% on board with our vision, and the results were frickin amaze balls. You are paying them a lot of money, so make sure that your vendors embraces your vision and offers the kind of service that will WOW you. Don't settle for anything less.
BTW... I would recommend all of my vendors

I'm getting married in Charlottesville so that doesn't count as the DC metro area but I did hire one of my vendors from NOVA and I love him - my photographer, Ken Pak. Highly recommend.
@ChickFromDC: photographer twins!! He's AMAZING, and such a great guy. He'll capture your day beautifully!
I didn't get married in DC, but I bought my dress here as Blush Bridal, in Gainesville, VA. I had a good experience, for the most part with them. But, i HIGHLY recommend their seamstress, Patty. Holy moly, she was awesome!
ETA: I also can't speak highly enough of Washington Diamond in Vienna, VA. My engagement ring and our wedding rings came from them. Wonderful selection and customer services. Their prices are unbeatable, as well!
