I am looking for a dog breed (if this exists!) that likes to snuggle.
My dog is completely independent. She has her "own room," which is our laundry room and she sleeps in there all day and all night.
She loves to hike and she loves to sleep alone.
That is about it. :/
Do you think it just depends on the dog, or have you experienced a breed that you feel "loves to snuggle?" Or at least be pet!
Thank you bees :)
My Boston Terrier does! They are pretty active dogs as pups but ours isnt even 2 yet and he hes a snuggler! He loves to sleep with my SO and I and he MUST be under the covers (his rules not ours lol!) He settled down a lot after he got fixed, but that is true for most male dogs anyways!!
We have a black lab and she is one of the snuggliest dogs I have ever met. As a kid we had a lab/rott mix and she really liked to snuggle with me too.
DH and I also have a 2 year old husky/lab mix and she is snuggly too. We also snuggled with them as puppies. The slept in our bed and hung out on the couch with us up until they could make that decision on their own. They still prefer to cuddle :) Our dogs are 2 and 3 years old :)
I do! I have a rotweiler and rhodesian ridgeback mix. She looooooves to lay on you. I'm not sure there's really a breed that does that, I think it's just the individual dogs.
My dog loves any kind of attention and likes to snuggle. She often lays on my lap while I'm watching TV and has to get in underneath my covers with me in bed to go to sleep. She's a black pug!
I had a boxer named Daisy that loved to snuggle. She was very active at times, but was very loving and snuggley also. My mom currently has a boxer named Angel who also loves to snuggle. So personally I would say boxers.
my lab/ shite shepherd mix loves to be close to you all the time... not neccessarily snuggle though.
but my australian shepherd mix is the absolute most cuddliest dog i have ever seen in my life. she puts her head in the groove of your neck and shell lay with you all day if you let her! i <3 her! im not sure if its the breed though.... she was a rescue and when we first got her she didnt want to come near us let alone snuggle (we think someone beat her as shed just pee if you went to go touch her or moved too fast... so sad) now shes a crazy cuddle bug! :)

I have three dogs, and two of them LOVE to cuddle. My oldest, who is almost 13, is a lab/beagle mix who has never in her life (since I've had her, anyway) cuddled, kissed, or played with any toys. The other two are the total opposite- they do all of these and play all the time, but when they aren't "on" they are pushed up against you, sleeping. Preferably under a blanket, or if it's Bean the mini dachshund he's wrapped around your neck like a neck pillow. I have definitely noticed that the burrowing under covers seems to be a small breed thing, my mini doxie does it and my chi mix does too.
I've also heard males are much more cuddly and this is def true in my experience with my own dogs. I do think it's more personality than breed :)
@stephanie63087: Holy cuteness! My dog would NEVER do that! She is very particular about how she is positioned :)
@pinkhorse: I love Boxers. Sometimes they look so "badass" too, but they are usually so sweet.
@MrsCoachBtoBee: Rhodesians are awesome! I always wanted one.
@Miss Lily: I love labs. Mine was so large he couldn't really snuggle. I think he thought he was just too big. He was 90 pounds :)
@misschickpea: I have never known a Boston. Thanks! I will look into them :)
I kind of want an Italian Greyhound:

They seem so cute and like they have big personalities. I have never had a small dog though!
I know their (ridiculous) media image seems to suggest otherwise, but some of the biggest snugglers out there are pitbulls, as any owner will attest!! Mine is snuggled at my feet as I type this :) If I'm up against one arm of the sofa and the whole rest of it is open, she'll squeeze into the little space between me and the sofa arm and snuggle into a little ball on my lap! Shhh, don't tell her she's 65 lbs!
Our Newfoundland dog LOVES to snuggle! He gets into bed with us every night for a snuggle, and then comes back in the morning to snuggle (we only have a queen sized bed, so he can't stay the night with both of us there). He also sleeps on the bed when one of us isn't there.

@MsLotus: My friend has two pits and he said they are so sweet and snuggly, that they are literally laying on his feet when he sits down.
@Ms Mini: That is the cutest thing. He gets his snuggle in before bed and then comes back for more in the morning. That would be like snuggling with a person! he looks so sweet!
@twentyeleven: I think you are right, I bet it does depend on the individual dog. I used to snuggle with my girl as a puppy, but when I got DH (in my life) he said no more dogs near the bed :( I miss it so much though. That is interesting that your female dog was just never that into it.
@cbee: I always thought it was really weird. She's just always been very independent, and a little timid. She does live for treats and food though so at least she gets enjoyment from something, haha.
That pic of that puppy is adoraaaable! Although it really doesn't look like a greyhound to me. It is just a pic so who knows... but his paws are ginormous!
My boxer is attached to me and even sleeps with his paws wrapped around my leg!! And at my parents house we have a basset hound (Which is attached to my mom like crazy) I know for a fact those are 2 types of dogs that love to snuggle. My boxer is only 3 months old so that maybe why but the basset hound was a year old when we got him and now he's 3 and still as you can see snuggles. hope it helps.
This is Marty with my mom.

@twentyeleven: Yeah, I guess they all have their own personalities. My dog never like treats until I got a lab that loved them, then she suddenly wanted to eat everything. I used to have to try to convince her to eat her meals. She would let a milkbone drop right out of her mouth. She would look down at it, then up at me like... "are you kidding me?" "That tastes gross!"
Your dog sounds sweet. Yeah, I met an Italian Greyhound and it looked just like that. They are mini but have long legs and are really skinny and kind of spazy. (I love that!)
@Armywife89: Oh my goodness. That is so cute. Bassets seem like such great personalities. Your mom looks gorgeous by the way.
I have the exact same problem as you! My german shepherd has adopted the laundry room & bathroom as his own personal cave. I don't know if it's a breed thing or not, but he doesn't really even like it when you pet him, much less snuggle. He actually gets up and moves when I snuggle next to him! Sometime's I just hug him and tell him that he's "not allowed to reject the love!"
@SecretBee23: LOL! I try to do that too! I try to "make her" let me pet her. Mine is a German Shorthair, I guess that is known for being an independent breed. Maybe your sweet shepherd is too hot? I had a BF once that wouldn't snuggle because he said he was too hot all the time :)
I would say some breeds are definitely more prone to be snugglers, but it all depends on the individual dog too!
Oh boy...my dachshund Lacey's FAVORITE thing to do is snuggle! Here are some pictures of she and FI doing just that...he'd probably kill me if I showed these to his friends, hehe! :)

...and one more just for cuteness!

@sjs8906: OMG! That last picture is perhaps the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. It is like a little person!
@sjs8906: My doxie sleeps on his back like that too!! What a bastard. Anyway, we have a dachshund and a boxer and they both LOVE to snuggle. My dachshund comes and lays on my lap or between my knees when I'm watching tv or doing homework, and he knows when it's bedtime and snuggles right on in. He loves to burrow under the covers!
My Chi-mix is the BIGGEST cuddler ever! She has to sleep under the covers! I love it!!! Everyone who has dogsitted her said the same thing, they think it is pure cuteness!!! I was telling a co worker the other day that when I first got her, I had bought her a little bed to sleep in and all she did was cry and walk around looking for someone to snuggle with! So I brought her into the bed and she immediatly sleep in the curl of my legs!! She will sleep in her kennel every now and then, but she has gotten to the point where she likes the couch much better, I just have to put an old comforter on it and she makes her bed! :) She also makes her way into our bed every now and then!
@CDubyaToCJay: My chi mix sleeps in bed with us every.night. And my bf leaves before I wake up a few days a week, so he feeds/walks them...when he leaves, Berkeley whines at the shut door non-stop until I let him in so he can go back to sleep with me, lol.
I seen another boston terrier owner posted. They are great little dogs. Mine to loves to cuddle. She always sleeps right between me and my fiance under the blankets in bed. She also cuddles in with us during movies or any other time she can. I love that about her. She's the best dog i have ever known or had.
Terriers in general are good cuddlers because they like to burrow themselves. I have a pit bull and he is the best snuggler EVER. He sleeps under the covers every single night. If I am on the couch and have a blanket he will want to come under my blanket. I think his favorite thing in the world might be snuggling!
My parents have a Maltese and she actually barks feroshiously at you if you don't pick her up. She needs to be held at all times.
I have two mini-poodles and they really aren't happy unless they're getting to snuggle! Last night I was laughing at how "trained" they are because I had one wrapped around each foot last night -- perfect toe warmers! But really, they want to snuggle all the time.
I have a golden retriever and she LOVES to snuggle. I basically treat her like a full body pillow with my arms and legs wrapped around her, she just loves it! With her size, she is the perfect cuddle buddy :)
Oh my goodness, my dog loooooves to snuggle. If I could upload a pic now, I would. She is a miniature pinscher/pug mix and scrunches herself up into a little ball. I think the min pin in her is like the terriers PPs have mentioned - she likes to burrow and get under blankets!
My pomapoo (pomeranian/toy poodle mix) is extremely cuddly--he's also fluffy and little which makes him a great lap dog! All the pomeranians I know are very cuddly.
I also have a suggly lab mix. He weighs 80 pounds, but I swear he has reverse Napolean syndrome--he thinks he is a MUCH smaller dog than he really is. He will shove as much of his body as he can into your lap (I'm only 5'2", so there's not a lot of lap!). If he is next to you on the couch, he is pressed against you, or sitting behind you with his giant noggin resting on your shoulder (again, I'm short, so Barney and I are the same height sitting down. :))
Let's just say I spend a lot of time on the couch with limbs falling asleep, because I can't bear to move my snuggle-muffin. :)
We call Virgil (pit mix) "The Cuddle Rapist." He cuddles whether you like it or not, and a he can strike anyone at any time... anywhere!
my pit bull snuggles like no other - its rare for her to not be sitting next to me or snuggled on some part of me when we're home - shes my 70 lb. blanket/lap dog :)
I think it varies more by dog than by breed. We have a pit bull/red heeler mix who is a major cuddlebug. He loves to snuggle! It's my favorite part of having a dog. He likes to get up on the bed in the morning and sleep between us. He loves to spoon!
