I have one of those slackers myself! I just decided not to talk about him anymore. I told the FI that as long as on the day of our wedding he's dressed correctly he can be in it. I really had to commit to this though at first I was still asking questions and just stopped in order not to blame my FI for his friends laziness.
I can't stand it when people purposly wait until the last minute to do things. I just kicked someone out for doing this (actually my mama did it for me). She told her that since she had not ordered she took it that should would no longer be in the wedding and that we understood. Still no response from her, but a good friend volunteered to step in for her. So it all worked out.
That's awesome. Glad you found a way to make them (and yourself!) laugh! I agree with you, he's a tool.
Oh and I should add that toolio is unemployed, so it's not like he has anything better to do with himself.
I think you did the right thing! Obviously you can't control this situation and you shouldn't let it stress you out!
I also had this problem. Something about getting measured out of the US became an issue for one of our GM who is student teaching in Korea. Turns out, I let FI handle it and it worked out find, I told him either he gets measured before the due date, or he isn't in the wedding. That was the only thing I had to say and then I left it up to FI (responsible adult) to take care of. Let it go to the man you love and let the pieces fall where they may.
@CupcakeSprinkles: I feel your pain. I swear, getting all the guys to get fitted for their tuxes was like pulling teeth. Next to the guest list, it was probably the hardest part of my wedding planning! Almost every single one of them waited until the last week to get fitted. They'll get it done - it's just frustrating to have to wait on other people, isn't it?!?!
@lilybay -- what fries me is that FI's best man, who lives in the middle of the desert, drove two hours out of his way to get fitted like, a month ago. This GM? Informed FI of this fact specifically to get a rise out of me.
I told my fiance if this GM doesn't have his stuff together and shows up to the wedding in Dockers or Jeans he's out, on the spot and his dad can stand up with him. I've seriously had it with his antics.
@MissHelen: he's just being a jerk. He told FI he was waiting until the last day (before there's a late fee for a rush order) because he could. He'd been employed for awhile and was only fired recently -- for taking too many unexcused absences.
He's a jerk. He can go fall in a hole.
Geeeeeeeeeez. That totally blows chunks. Honestly, I think you did the right thing by telling your FI it's his issue now. Seriously, you've done your part.

Everyone in our wedding party has been measured for their tuxes, except for one GM, fiance's oldest friend, whom I cannot stand. He informed FI he would wait until the very last possible day to order, which is in about two weeks. Men's Warehouse has been calling me with updates (which had been informative, since I learned about two weeks ago that FI's father hadn't been measured either, but he handled that this weekend.) They called me again today, and ladies, I'm having a rough day. As soon as I listened to the VM reminding me that this tool still hadn't been measured, my blood started to boil. I called MW back and very politely asked them to direct all future phone calls regarding the status of BM's tux (or lack thereof) to my FI, since it's his idiot friend. They laughed and said that wouldn't be a problem at all.
That's the first time I've smiled all day today.
