We did a Mexican Riviera cruise out of Long Beach, CA right after Christmas one year (so we were at sea on NYE). It was not too cold AT ALL. It was a little pricier than usual for the holidays, but you could probably find a good deal if your winter break is more than a week long (so that you don’t have to go over New Year’s).

Check out Carnival!

We were considering porting from Puerto Rico cuz the cruise was such a good deal!!! We are still researching it!

I only know of the Mexican Riveria going during the Winter Months from CA. But you might find some Bahama/Caribbean trips from the East Coast!

@bellagio: We went on Carnival; it was the most cost effective. The ship wasn’t super crazy luxury or anything, but it was nice, and we had fun!

Also, when I say it was not too cold… it was at least in the 80s in most of the ports. Really nice beach weather!

@bellagio: Carnival truly is a great mix of age groups! I hear a lot of things about other cruise lines being more accomadating to the “Older Generations” etc. Carnival has some great activities, shows and things to keep you busy on the Sea Days! =)

We went on a Royal Caribbean cruise in December for my college graduation.  It was such great weather.  Warm and nice 🙂 We went to Cozumel and Belize and the sea days were beautiful.  I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Cozumel, MX was hot in December, we we’re in the ocean (Paradise Beach) with all the trampolines, ice berg, and other beach toys, drinking strawberry pina colodas on the beach and loving it.  We are from South Florida so we get cold easily and believe me it was not cold!  Also hung out at Carlos & Charlie’s for a while and had a blast

Hi Date twin!

December is a great time to go on a cruise. It’s not during hurricane season and the weather is great. You can look at cruises out of California, but maybe also look at leaving from Galveston, Texas or New Orleans too. I am not sure how that would be for a flight there. If you leave from those locations you can do a western caribbean itinerary and go to places  such as Cozumel, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Belize and Isla Roatan(off of Honduras.) A previous poster stated that around the holidays, there is a huge jump in price, so if you go before christmas/new year, it could be cheaper. Also, prices are good in January too, after the holidays.

My fiance and I booked our cruise through Carnival. Everyone says that Carnival ships are the “party” ships, but after two cruises with them, I have yet to see it. I think the partiers are more on the 3-5 day cruises. I have usually done an 8 day cruise, but this time we are doing a 7 day cruise. I like the longer ones because it takes a little time getting used to the ship and to do all the things you would like to do.

Royal Caribbean and Princess are 2 of the best cruise lines.  If you want a great cruise that isn’t too expensive, do a Southern Caribbean cruise out of Puerto Rico.  You will get to see all of the islands that normally you would have to fly to and stay at a resort and its the best way to figure out which island you like the best before you possibly go back for an anniversary trip or something.  Normally you only have 1 day at sea with a 7 night Southern Caribbean.  The Serenade of the Seas is an absolutely beautiful ship that sails out of Puerto Rico as well.  Not sure if its sailing in December though.  Carnival might be the only option.  Carnival is nice, but you have to make sure you get a newer ship or it looks kind of tacky.  🙂
