Just by what you've stated in this post, it should definitely be the first one! There are two key factors when dealing with any wedding day vendors: comfort with their skill and responsiveness. From what you've said, the first photog is not only responsive, you both feel like you can truly open up to her. So important! I hope this helps! Let me know if I can be of any further assistance!
From what you describe, they DON'T seem like they have similar styles. Who pictures do you like the BEST? If it's really 50/50, I'd honestly go with the most responsive. The #1 turn off in my book regarding vendors is those who take forEVER to get back to you, I think it's completely unprofessional (in my head I'm thinking "gee you don't even have my money yet and you won't contact me, what's it going to be like when you DO").
I would go with the one you feel more of a connection to. Any way you can meet with them in person? I agree with PP that said responsiveness is key!
It sounds like you have pretty much answered your own question. Obviously you favor #1, so I would book that one immediately. Go with your heart! From an outside view, I can see where your heart is here.
thanks for the responses! you're all totally right-- i was leaning towards the first photographer and just needed a little push to be totally confident about the decision! i just signed a contract with the first photographer, so psyched!!
Have you viewed WHOLE weddings by each ( at least 50-100 images from a single wedding ) ? I'm a photographer and I HIGHLY recommend doing this ! You may have already done so, but I really think viewing whole weddings shows a photographers true work and shows it more acurately than just viewing highlights from a bunch of different weddings.
@amanda_b-- we have! after reading the boards for awhile looking for tips, that was one of the first things i asked them :) thanks though, such great advice! you see such a different side when you see the whole thing from start to finish!
You really can! I was hoping you maybe hadn't yet and that would be the deciding factor. If both of their whole weddings look great and their you like both style/price/personality, sometimes it really is just a matter of choosing. There can be a lot of vendors in an area who would all do a great job, so you might have to just pick ( probably not the most helpful advice ) !
@finnaroo Glad I could help out! Feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance in choosing those vendors!
the first one! i personally don't like posey photos. i mean, i don't mind doing poses, but not the ones that others can tell they were POSED poses.. did i just confuse myself here?

hi bees! :)
okay, i'm trying to decide between 2 photographers, who have similar styles prices and packages, and i'm hoping for some wisdom about what the most important factors to consider are...both come via a personal recommendation-- one directly (the husband and wife team shot our friends' engagement session), and the other more indirectly (she was recommended by 2 booked photographers we talked to, one of whom shot our friends' wedding). i'm feeling like i'm in a time crunch--we've already contacted a ton of photographers who have been booked, and we got scooped by another bride for a photographer we really really liked...and i head out of town for work on friday for a week, and want to sign with one of them soon.
we've talked to one on the phone and had a great, really long conversation. we think we'd be really comfortable with her, and fi and i are both pretty camera shy so comfort is definitely important. she makes smiley faces in her emails and seems laid back and fun. she has really crisp, colorful shots that are very natural looking (which we want our photos to look like). we have a contract for her, and i don't want to wait too long and lose her...
the other one we haven't talked to yet, but she hasn't been as responsive to emails and seems more formal...she/they use more creative angles and different lenses so her pictures look a little more arty, but then the shots also look a little more posed/less natural, and they aren't quite as bright colors. we wouldn't be able to meet with them until after my work trip
hopefully this makes sense! any ideas about what should be the deciding factor? i don't think either one would be a mistake, but i just don't know...!
