I based it off my chapel. We are getting married in a very simple chapel on the marsh, so a glamorous or over-the-top dress would have looked silly in such a simple setting. Once I had the chapel, I knew what kind of dress would be appropriate for the chapel, how to decorate, and how to carry through the general theme of the chapel decor to the reception decor.

Well, I did get my dress before anything else but I also had a theme in mind. I knew what I wanted my dress to look like, I knew I wasn’t going to change my mind on that, so I would have felt comfortable planning more things even if I hadn’t found my dress yet.

(I wanted something vintage and springy.)

I booked my venue first, then the dress and colors around that because I feel like the venue really sets the bar for the entire event :]
