Possibilities are endless with backyard receptions. You could string lights like in the first picture or go as far as setting up a tent in the second picture. If you google backyard reception pictures...there are alot of different ideas! The sky is the limit.
I think favors are a nice idea, but not necessary. I attended a wedding this weekend where they used bottles of wine for table cards (one bottle per couple or family). The wine had a custom label on it that had an engagement photo on it. So it doubled as a favor and a table card that was simple and probably not terribly expensive for a small wedding.
The bottles were at a small table and had tags on them that said the name of the guest or guests and the table number. Hope that helps!
@allielovesnate - I love the wine bottle idea! We won't have assigned seating, but it is a great idea to sprinkle along the tables & people can pick them up and take them home.
@ericalynndesigns - I absolutely LOVE that first picture you posted. You're right, the possibilities are endless! That is going to be my inspiration image - thanks!!
I remember a while back seeing photos of an outdoor lemonade station at a wedding. I believe it was a Martha Stewart idea? It had regular lemonade, pink lemonade, etc. It was super cute and made for a great photo op. =)
This site gives you some great outdoor party-planning ideas...
Yeah! Just sent my mom that first picture & she said "we can make it happen"!
:)
Paper lanterns from ebay! You could hang them on lights crisscrossing the yard or hang them from trees (use battery powered lights to light them.)
Don't try to decorate everything. Instead, focus on details and put your effort into decking out the focal points such as the cake table, the head table, sign-in table and centerpieces. Centerpieces don't have to be full-on flowers. Depending on your theme you can use almost anything: flower petals, fruit, stacks of old books if you're big readers, tons of candles. IKEA is great for candles.
If any indoor areas are to be used, you could drape the ceiling with white or ivory voile fabric and rent (or make) uplights to dramatize the effect. Check ebay for fabric. Tulle sucks. It doesn't drape well. Use sheet voile instead. I got 88 yards of white voile for just under $200 on ebay.

Hi ladies!
My mom & step-dad are hosting an Ohio reception for us in August. I can't wait! With the wedding already over, my days have this huge void in them (that used to be filled with everything wedding planning!).
Seeing all of the other bees wedding inspiration stuff makes me want to plan and design a really cool event. It's in their backyard - which is GORGEOUS all on its own
but what are some little things I could do to spice it up?
Also, do you give favors or whatever for at home receptions?
Thanks!
Mrs. Q
