How about balloons? Big ones, maybe all one color pallete and tie extra long strings to them...that way it is easier to clean up after! I wanted do do something like this, but our venue won't let us. Maybe even tissue pom poms mixed in with balloons. Try looking at Mrs. Mascaras blogs, I think she did draped her celings if I'm not mistaken! Good luck
do you have pictures of your venue? just from reading your post, i'd say you could do the vintage bulb strings or chinese lanterns. is there anyway you can get maybe the paper chandeliers and hang them? martha has some for halloween that are cardboard and black and look really awesome.
Can we see pictures of the venue, or a link? Even draping long panels of fabric from/across the ceiling can make a big difference, if that's the look you're going for.
If you can show us some pictures we can help brainstorm more ideas!
I loved loved loved how Mrs. Tiramisu did the ceiling in her tent, is this something you might be able to try? http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/03/16/tents-and-lanterns-and-layouts-oh-my/ She even talks about how many she needed, how to hang them, and shows lots of great pictures! :)
Pictures will definitely be a big help with this, here! But balloons sound fun.
There's a store near my house that put up Aluminum on the ceiling and then strung Christmas lights in a criss-cross pattern across it. It makes for such a warm feeling!
Those different sized paper lanterns can make a ceiling feel more low and cozy. I guess it's almost along the same lines as the balloons.

Hi Ladies-
New to the website, but am in desperate need of help.
Not using a wedding planner, but decorating my own reception and ceremony. The place is great, pretty much lets you do anything, but I'm starting to worry it will be too cold and urban. (I really wanted an outdoor wedding, but KC weather is too unpredictable.)
Any suggestions on what I can do with these ceilings/cold space?
It seems so bare. I can't really hang much on the rafters, although I'm going to see if I can push it.
Help!
