i went to a (beautiful!) reception like this where the bride made luminarias for centerpieces. she pasted doilies on the insides so the candelight cast a pretty pattern.
I'd do a small cluster of votives or a simple arrangement of a few blooms. Both would be small and low, and would keep the bistro feel.
Oh - or what about a terrarium? You could use colored glass, stones, flowers, to fit your wedding.
Or floating candles in a glass cylinder (maybe just one per table
)
Yikes! Those photos were the correct size in the comment editing box. Sorry!
thanks for the cool suggestions!
@amysue: i think i saw the lace doily candles on Martha Stewart too! very pretty :)
@peachypear: those are BEAUTIFUL and easy to put together! thank you!
thanks for the inputs, everyone! i never expected that making centerpeices for small tables would be trickier than for big tables! ha!
What kind of favors do you have? If you have favors that are in boxes, maybe you can pile them up in the middle of the table? I think I saw something like that in a Martha Stewart magazine :)
I think using candles and class cylinders can be such a classy approach- not to mention a way to save money. Also, using a mirror underneath the candles will help them reflect even more light. I've seen some great pictures with people using river rocks, glass pieces, and coffee beans around the candles in their cylinders. It's a great way to save money and keep the tables classy looking. Martha Stewart weddings website has a lot of great ideas.

Hi ladies,
I've looked at a beautiful array of table centerpieces on the site and am thoroughly impressed. Wonder if you could help me with ideas for my reception too
:
We're having only about 40+ guests divided into groups of 4 or 6, and the square tables are pretty small (2 x square tables joined = 4 guests) in a little french bistro.
we'll need somehing not too elaborate so that food can be served easily, and accomodate all the stemware.
anyone had a reception set-up in intimate groups and have ideas to share about possible (affordable) decor for small tables?
cheers,
felicia.
