    Hi all

We are from Texas and marrying in Iowa in March 2011.  We will be in Iowa the week prior to the wedding, so this makes it hard to plan the cake thing depending on how much notice bakeries want.

I have contacted one guy based on internet reviews only.  Supposedly his cakes are awesome and his pictures look nice but he is REALLY not good about responding to my emails.  I'm not ruling him out but it's frustrating.

We know we will have to go with a nearby city most likely and pay a delivery fee... so we hope to find someplace reasonably priced.

    Any help/links appreciated.

Pedretti's Bakery might be a good option for you! They are located in Elkader, IA which is like an hour from Decorah but they do great cakes if the transport would be do-able! :)  Here's the website

just a post-wedding update:  we used Pedretti's.. based on internet reviews of the bakery in general (couldn't find any specifically about the cakes) and I wish we'd shopped around more!

There were other options in the area but Pedretti's was closest to Decorah and middle of the road price wise and in initial convos through email, seemed friendliest and most professional.

Well, the cake itself was mediocre.  It didn't taste "bad" but wasn't what I expected.  The "bavarian cream" filling tasted more like the stuff in the middle of an oreo and it was a super thin layer. The cake itself wasn't particularly moist, I have made better at home many times.   The cake was supposed to have cherry blossom decoration but the flowers were in fact something else, and long story short but in the end the person I dealt with there was quite rude.  And it was a pain to get to and from the bakery, lots of hilly back roads making cake-transport scary (but that was my choice, I didn't want to pay the extra for delivery).  In short, while the cake didn't look bad it wasn't what I expected and not as nice as what is on their website.

    Just thought I'd share!
