eeek!  I too, have to decorate an ugly hall.  Can you hang anything from the ceiling?  are the ceiling high?  or average?  I was thinking of buying cheap curtains and hanging them from the ceiling and adding string lights. Or, you can use garden trellis in a few key spots…

Check out party rental companies in your area.  The one I’m using to rent chairs also offers a sort of curtain backdrop with strands of Christmas lights (it sounds bad the way I’m describing it, but it really does look nice).  They set it up with their own structure, it doesn’t hang on the wall at all.  Maybe there would be something like that in your area?

Of if you aren’t a fan of that idea, uplighting in different colors can do a lot to change the look of a room.  That could also be something to look into.

But if none of that works, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.  You’re so close to the wedding now, the last thing you need to do is stress about the venue.  Once the room is filled with tables and all your other decorations, no one will notice the room itself too much.

I’m assuming it probably has those ugly ceiling panels so just buy some cheapo sheets, fabric, table clothes, etc. and drape it from the ceiling  so it hangs down and covers the plaques.  Hope this helps!

Garden Trellis if it works with your decor would work great!  You could get some tulle/ribbon to weave through and gently lean it against the wall.  Maybe you could set up two large floor size vases with flowers to hold it in place?  I would check out thrift stores in your area for large vases.  Then you could maybe do a couple of large pomanders to set on top?  What do you think?

Just keep the whole room dimly lit!  If you’re allowed to use candles then use tons of them, as candelight is so flattering and makes anything look more elegant.  Otherwise, what about balloons?  Martha Stewart did a feature with some huge spherical balloons (NOT regular party balloons!) and they could look really beautiful and interesting in your colors or in white.
