I'm assuming your reception will be under the covered veranda & the ceremony on the dock?
For starters, lighting, esp candles does really help since the mood, so I would def have LED/flameless candles inside votives (go with the foggy ones, that way people can't tell that they arn't real.)
And secondly, it looks like one of the pics, that someone hung lanterns? You could do what I did, and hang lanterns from fishing wire (therefore no taping, no nails) just simply tying string and letting them hang. We did this in our covered veranda, that has similar ceilings to yours and put them in clusters to make the ceiling more "filled." here are some pics so you can get an idea:

Also, you could drape curtains/panels, like they do in tents. This will create a dramatic ceiling, and once again you can tie it w/out nails or tape.
@AnnieAAA: Thanks for the ideas! Your wedding looks like it was lovely!
Does anyone know what I could do for the ceremony? If it rains, it will be under the veranda, if not it will be on the dock. No clue how to decorate the dock area, or if I even should??
Thanks so much for the responses!!!
Evening wedding:
If the top of the deck rail is flat, I would ring the whole thing with candles or luminarias. I would hang two flower arrangements from the posts that hold the lights.
I would consider hanging a string of battery operated cafe lights between the two posts.
Daytime wedding:
I would do simple DIY arrangements using yellow flowers and grey Dusty Miller in mason jars in place of the candles suggested above.
I would consider hanging bunting or a banner between the two posts.

or a floral curtain ( tie the fishing line around a rock at the bottom of each string to keep it from tangling in the breeze.

Hi Bees!
I need some decoration ideas...I am having my wedding at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio this September. Their rules require no taping, no gluing, no balloons, no candles, no nails, etc...eek. Other than tying things with string, I'm kind of stuck on how to decorate...Plus, I am planning from out of state and having a really hard time visualizing and planning it all out!
It's stressing me out a bit, because the decor is really important to me. I feel ilke it really sets the mood for the wedding.
Sooo, if you have anyyyy suggestions, please let me know!
Here are some details:
Location: Outdoor, Columbus Zoo...there is a river right behind where we are getting married. There is a pier that leads out onto the water.
Colors: Colors are gray and yellow, but with touches of other colors as well. Bridesmaids dresses will be gray, but I really want to perk everything up with nice bright colors.
Theme: Rustic, yet modern. I want everything to have a clean, yet almost vintage feel.
Also, I don't want to make it into an animal theme, even though it's at the zoo--trying to stay away from a birthday party feel.
