We had an iPod wedding as well, so I definitely don't think that a DJ is necessary, but you will need to borrow speakers and have someone around to change the songs if you need to (we had different playlists for each "event" and my cousin graciously agreed to man the iPod for us).
If you'd rather go with a DJ, I'd say to just do your research very carefully; I've been to weddings that had amazing DJs and ones that had terrible ones. Maybe you and your FI can sit down and come up with some ideas of what you definitely want and don't want (ex, very interactive vs. quiet DJ, Chicken Dance, Money Dance, etc) and you can bring that with you when you talk to DJs.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
At my sister's wedding, she used an ipod and played music through speakers. It went fairly well - people still danced, but there was also no alcohol, so it wasn't crazy. :)
At my wedding, there will be no alcohol, but my fiance wants to get a deejay to liven things up. I'm from CT, and everything is more expensive here. Do you feel that a deejay is necessary?
And if you're from CT, any good, cheap deejay suggestions?
