There were a few jobs that I wanted to give to my FI in wedding planning. I wanted him to pick our first dance song and book our honeymoon. I thought these were things I didn’t care a lot about and I just wanted him to make the decision for me so that the decision would be made and I wouldn’t have to think about it.
However, I’ve realized since that I DO care a lot about these things. He’s started giving me his ideas on these things, and I find myself nitpicking all of them because none of them are perfect. I hate doing that to him, but I don’t want to settle for a resort that will treat us poorly or a song that doesn’t fit us! It seems like this was the real reason I delegated to him–I knew I was too picky and so I didn’t want to deal with these issues myself. Instead, I set him up to disappoint me and set myself up to act like a jerk.
