From the googling that I have done it should be ok but make sure when they cover you they cover your neck/thyroid.

I had almost this exact situation! My dental benefits were about to end (they just expired Feb 28th) and I wanted to get everything in beforehand. I told my receptionist that my husband and I were TTC but that I’d gotten a negative test that morning. She spoke to the dentist who decided I didn’t need x-rays for what I was doing (and I got my full set down about 5 months ago), but had I needed them he seemed very hesitant to take them. Definitely discuss it with your dentist tomorrow, if you need x-rays maybe ask him to double up on vests and make sure you are protected from the chin down.

@As_You_Wish:  During my last pregnancy I had x-rays. I also no others that had dental x-rays while they were PG as well.  The dentist and my OB both didn’t see any problem with it. The x-rays are on your mouth far away from your uterus. Just wear an apron and you will be fine.

@As_You_Wish:  It is interesting how one Dr will say this while another will say the opposite etc… in regards to everything lol

Everytime I’ve gone for teeth x-rays, they have said that they have to ask if there was a chance I could be pregnant.

I had gotten a BFP 2 days before my dentist appt and they refused to do xrays for me too. Not sure what they would havedone during TWW though.

The amount of radiation from a dental xray is as minimal as you would get walking outside from your office to your car from the sun. However….when dealing with someone who is or may be pregnant, many err on the side of caution, since anything that might go wrong could potentially be blamed on anything the dentist did….and they prefer to minimize their risks by doing as little as possible.

We know they are safe to do especially after the first trimester, but try telling that to a pregnant woman who is worried about everything already! lol Many Docs will just forego them altogether, unless there is a true emergency. I had a tooth abcess in my 5th month and needed a root canal, and they took the necessary xrays to complete the treatment….and everything was fine.

If you took a survey involving 10 different practitioners, I’m betting their answers would be split 50/50 on the issue.

@As_You_Wish:  I had a cleaning done while I was in my TWW and I told them I could be pregnant (I was/am) and she decided to skip the x-rays as well.  I have regular check-ups, so no need.

FYI, my dentist said it’s important to get a check-up more regularly while pregnant.  Every three months.  So probably only one extra visit during your pregnancy.
