Today is an exciting day!
In my last post I wrote about MJ asking me to help pick my ring. After visiting 5 jewellers and getting quotes on the setting we want, we narrowed it down to 2. The final cut would depend on who which find us the best stone and give us the best price on the completed ring.
There was some disappointment when earlier this week we found a stone we loved, but by the time we’d looked through the GIA and talked it over, the stone was gone. Then we had two stones brought in, but the jeweller called to say “don’t bother coming in. Our gemologist doesn’t think the stones are good enough.” Ugh! So close.
But today, everything went right! We were presented with a great option (on paper). While we considered it, the gemologist found an even BETTER option. I did some negotiating and the jeweller brought the price of the completed ring down by over $2,000. MJ said “done” and that was it!
We’ve bought a glorious 1.48ct VS1 Fancy Yellow oval diamond. I can’t believe I get to have my dream diamond – actually, it’s bigger than I ever dreamed was achievable (yay for my stubborn Scottish negotiating heritage. lol). It should be at the jewellers early next week and then they’ll start the custom setting work.
Now for the pics! I’ve based it off a Ritani setting (SKU 1OVZ1320-6486) but I’ve simplified it a bit.
Top view (MJ liked solitaire settings best)
Side profile (I also love solitaires, but wanted a little somethin’ somethin’. Hello hidden halo!)
Front profile (this was the clincher for me. Just so pretty!)
So … it’s really happening! The waiting now is REALLY gonna kill me. lol
