My cat has kidney failure, from Tueday to Wednesday she dropped a significant amount of weight and has been at the vet ever since. This morning the vet suggested we stop treatment and let her go but we are going to continue throughout the weekend.
I guess it’s just a shock to me, she has been living with my parents ( I visited frequently) but was due to come move in with me this weekend and it is looking more and more like that is never going to happen.
I just feel so sad and helpless and stressed out about the whole situation, on top of my general sadness I now have four canker sores which are incredibly painful due to the stress of this situation. I really really hope that she pulls through but I don’t think the vet believes she will. I visit her twice a day for 30 minutes to an hour but I won’t be able to tomorrow. One of my biggest fears is that she is going to pass away at the vets and be all alone without me. I love her so much…

I’m really sorry Acorn…My cat is part of my family so I can’t imagine how hard this is for you.
As far as the canker sores, my friend worked for a dentist for a long time and would give me these little patch thingies to put on them. They would dissolve and then clear up really fast. Maybe you can talk to your dentist and get some of these? Also, using a toothpaste without sodium laurel sulfate will help to keep those from coming back. I use the sensodyne in the short little can that foams up.

So sorry to hear! I went through this with my cat 5 years ago, I know exactly how you feel! But, on the upside, my cat pulled through! Somehow, even after the vet urged that it was his time to go, he still hung on and is back to him old self! So don’t lose all hope just yet! I’m sure your cat knows you love her very much!!
Sending hugs your way 🙂

She is doing so much better! We took her home and did IV from home despite the vet believing it was her time. I’m not going to get my hopes up too much but I’m really happy right now.

Thanks everyone- I’ve been giving her IV fluid everyday via sub-q and she has been getting significantly better until tonight when she started to crash again. She has even gained half a pound which I believe is significant on her light frame (she was always a small cat)
It has taken me by surprise because of how much better she has been and her willingness to try dry food again (which consequently also led to her no longer wanting to eat her a/d so baby food chicken had to do).
I’m going to see how she is doing in the morning- hopefully she makes it through the night and I will take her to the vet once again.

I didn’t have a chance to take her to the vet in the morning- I left her at 4am and when I woke up to give her fluids again at 8am she was gone.
I feel really bad- I feel as if I should have slept in the living room last night. I did everything I could and I wish she had lived longer, there are many cats that live on sub-q for years having mostly normal lives- she was getting so much better and I was being overly optimistic. Yesterday before she crashed she was acting much more like her normal self and I gave into her begging for french fries which she ate several of and considering that I had been spoon feeding her (she was very slowly starting to eat food on her own) I was very proud of her.
I’ll miss her always and remember the very short 6 years I had with her. Thank you for being supportive.
