I haven't taken my gown in for alterations yet, but I've been directed to see Anna's Tailor Shop in Ankeny or Kim's Tailor at Valley West Mall. I understand they are husband/wife and both do a fabulous job.
I have friends that have used Kim's for jeans, and bridesmaid dresses; but I am really leary when it comes to my dress. It is lace with beading, and I need it taken in, cups added to the bust, and would like the neckline changed from straight to a slight dip/sweetheart. I would be destroyed if it wasn't done properly.
Thanks for the leads, I have heard good things about Kim's, but I don't know any brides that have been there. Were you referred by a bride, do you know what she had done to her dress?
I was referred there by posts on The Knot (everyone in the local forum recommended one of those two). I'm not sure what they had done though.
*bump*
Any DM brides out there, I would like to have my neckline changed, and other than that it is just normal taking it in and adding cups to the bust. Any recommendations?
Just bumping again to see if any DM brides have joined the hive that have a great seamstress recommendation (and semi-affordable would be great too, although I know I will get what I pay for so I have the budget loose here)
Did you ever find someone to alter your dress? I'm actually looking for a seamstress in the Des Moines area to do some alterations to my dress, including adding a sweatheart neckline. Please let me know if you have any good suggestions! Thanks!
I did find a great seamstress. Jude Dixon. She lives in Urbandale. You can call her direct orgoo through Weddings by Design. I altered my neckline from straight to sweetheart also. She did a fantastic job!!

Thanks! Do you have her # to call her directly? How much did she charge you for the neckline, and anything else you had done?

This one is just to show what a great job she did with getting me that really fitted silhouette I wanted, and all of the rebeading she did (you could never tell it wasn't initially fitted to me)

Des Moines Bees,
I purchased my gown from a small independent boutique, which is great because I got a great deal...but now I need to find someone to do alterations. I have the recommendation of the shop owner, but she is 45 minutes away, and I know nothing about her. I have talked to her, and she sounds like she would do a good job, and is reasonably priced.
Just wondering if there are any DM brides out there that have recommendations. Did you use someone private, did they do a great job, were they reasonable in their pricing?
Thanks!
