    Ok when we built our home my main vision was an open floor plan. I hate walls, hate clutter, hate feeling trapped! Yea I like my space over being cozy I guess. Well we have a great temporary set up in out great room; in the original floor plan it was a family room then a wall divided into a formal living room. We took the wall out bc it opened it up 10000%. I always wanted to upgrade our hand me down furniture and the time came this week when my dear inlaws offered us the very large, beautiful and hardly used sectional. We host a lot so I love that it provides more seating. However now that it is in the room I'm not so sure. Everyone thinks I'm being crazy, OCD and claustrophobic but I'm afraid it's overpowering the room and my vision. Of course the room is still a mess and I'm going on no sleep in 24 hrs from work! Bees help! What do you think and what would you do? I already took a piece of sectional out to make it smaller but I'm still lost. I'm providing before pictures of our setup we had with our L shape sectional and separate loveseat them a couple aerial shots with the new couch. It's hard to get the whole room due to the size. Thanks!

    I actually loveeeeee the new couches. Looks great! More cohesive. And I like how you got rid of the rug for some reason.. Love the floor  :)

    I like the new couches! The curve makes it very interesting, and it being one long unit gives some visual separation from the dining(?) area

    From some of the pictures, it looks to me like you should put the couch on the wall under the windows and reconfigure the room lengthwise instead of how you have it. What's down the other end where you have the 2 chairs or whatever they are? Is there another window there or a place for the TV?

    It probably looks overwhelming and too big since the other pieces are too small. Nothing is in scale right now, and too scattered. The TV is too long to be over that small chest, and the bookcases aren't being anchored to anything right now. Do you have anything else in the room like end tables or plan on drapes or any kind of art?

    Even tho it's providing some division from the kitchen/dining area, it's chopping the room in half. You'll have to play around with it and move it around until you're happy and comfortable with the set up. What are the room dimensions?

    @smyley:

    Thanks for your input; tv is specifically mounted for that wall as well as surround system so no, it's not moving. Also it is in fact NOT longer than the console it just doesn't show well in the pictures. Tv is 50" and console is over 60". Bookcases etc are really not my concern bc it's all temporary till I feel the room out and know how I want to decorate. I don't throw things up on a wall or in a room till I know for sure what I want. The other side is bay windows and open area, the "stuff" you see is a part of the sectional taken out and coffee table I'm not using anymore so naturally they wouldn't be there. Obviously tried to put the couch along the windows since that's where our original sectional was and it doesn't work due to the curve of the couch.

    Thanks for your input ladies! Yes it's still a work in progress! Rug is gone bc it was only needed to keep the coffee table from sliding and scratching the floor.

    @smyley: I agree with moving the couch about 3 feet from the wall. Then move the chairs you have across from the couch and set up a sitting area including a coffee table and maybe a side table between the chairs. You can still see the TV just fine but its not directly in front of it.

    I agree, i think you should pull the couch away from that wall and push it out into the room more. Then, put something else under the window. I think that may break it up and make it work better

    Try brining back the area rug and coffee table from your first pictures. The furniture doesn't look overpowering, it just doesnt look complete to me.

    One thing I would do is to move the bookshelves so that they are an equal distance from the media cabinet, maybe a 6" to a foot on each side.  That will create more of a distinct space for your TV area.

    I don't think the rug is bad, just put it and the coffee table a little closer toward the TV.  If you pulled the couch out from the wall just a smidge and hung floor-length curtains the that pick up a color from the rug, it would look really nice and put together.

    Good luck!

    What about wall shelving instead of the smaller pieces for the dvd's, etc?

    Thanks ladies! Yea I agree with moving it out more from the wall and we have! I plan on getting a round end table for now as I'm not sure what I could put under the window. I'm looking at shelving tomorrow such as leaning book cases; what's there now was always a temporary option. I'm not sure they'll end up on both sides of the tv due to the surround speakers that are installed in the wall doesn't provide much space in between. We will see! The dimensions for those who asked is roughly 29'x 13'.

    @MissGreen: leaning book cases would look awesome. the tv could go between, or you could line a good part of the wall with the cases!
