Hi ladies! First off, hello! I’m new here. 🙂
I’m having a winter wedding and was wondering what you all thought of dessert bars and coffee/hot chocolate ONLY. If I have my wedding after lunch (say around 1pm), it won’t be quite dinner time when the reception rolls around, so I think I can get away with it. It will be unique and save a ton of money!
What are your thoughts? Is that weird?

@skellison236: I LOVE dessert and coffee. When I read the title of the post though, I assumed it would be late, after dinner. After lunch, you say…..? Hm. I’d still love it!

Sounds good but I would start at 1:30 or 2 and be clear it’s a cake and refreshments reception only in the invite.

What time will it end? You say it’s not quite dinner time… Does that mean when it starts or ends?

@skellison236: It’s perfectly fine, as long as you avoid a meal time (which it sounds as if you’re planning to do) and you indicate the type of reception you’re having (dessert and coffee reception) on your invitation.

Sounds great to me! Just be sure the invitatins make it clear that there won’t be a meal. But I’d totally come and be excited!

I think if it was later in the evening it would be more appropriate/make more sense. Something around 7-8pm, after everyone has had dinner already. I don’t know if you’re looking to have alcohol at all, but you could give the option of having special coffees (Irish cream, baileys, etc)
For me, I wouldn’t really eat any desserts mid-day, because then its like “do I eat dinner still, or is pie my dinner?”
I think it’s a fabulous idea tho!

I love this idea. I’m the biggest sweet tooth so I would be in heaven:)

While I love dessert and coffee, I’d personally prefer to go to an hors d’oeuvres reception at this hour if it wasn’t going to include a traditional meal.

@FortiesFlare: I *love* the idea of special coffees! I was also thinking of doing a hot chocolate bar. No alcohol.
@Ennie: What if I added in some non-dessert finger foods for the more health conscious guests?

@skellison236: I don’t even think they have to be healthy. Just maybe some savory things? Cheese and crackers would be fine.

Our wedding will be at 7pm and we are having a simple reception afterwards of light refreshments, cake, punch and coffee.
I would go to a reception with just dessert and coffee!

I really love the idea of the dessert reception with the hot chocolate, but I’d expect something like that later, at night then in mid afternoon.

I went to a wedding like this. She hired a professional barrista, OMG forget starbucks that guy can make my coffee any morning of the week, then she had the wedding cake, squared cheesecake, she also had some small sandwiches. She displayed everything so elegantly, that was the best wedding I’ve been to.

I think it’s a great idea.
