Hey girls, so the fiance and I went to look at a few reception halls today, it was our first day and we had a pretty good outcome=) we looked at 4 places and narrowed it down to 2 places..i reallly love the one place because it has an awesome view (it’s in philly), has big windows, high ceilings, etc…the only thing is, they don’t have a dessert menu..they only have the wedding cake as the dessert…
so what do you guys think, should we skip on the place since there is no dessert table and/or do you think the reception has to have a dessert buffet/table???

Whenever I go to a wedding, all I want for dessert is cake and maybe some fruit. I think a lot of people probably share that view. :p
Just give me cake, cake, and some… cake.

Wow, it’s great that you found a venue that you really love so easily! I think what you need to ask yourself is how important is it to have a dessert buffet? If you really hate cake and/or really want another type of dessert, I’d say pass. But if you’re ambivilant on the types/variety of dessert, you should go for it with the venue you like the best. After months agonizing over what type of dessert to serve for my wedding, my FI finally looked at me and said, “Who really will care? Sweet is sweet – pick something.” He was right — your guests won’t mind if there’s only cake

Yay for finding a venue you both love, that’s really wonderful. My venue offers dessert but we have to bring in our cake. We are doing dessert favors so we acrually asked the venue to please forgo their dessert and serve ours plus our wedding cake. It also saves us a few dollars per person. We’re really happy with this outcome. Go with a venue you love.

If the venue has everything else that you’ve dreamed of…I say just give me cake! Could you maybe compromise and do a candy buffet for favors…which would offer other dessert options?

I’ve been to a lot of weddings and I gotta tell ya, I never make it to the dessert! I think the cake will be just fine, and some coffee or tea. I’m tellin ya, with the cocktail hour, dinner and drinks- they probably won’t even be able to eat an entire piece of cake. I’d go with the place you love and let them eat cake! No pun intended.

If yoou love the venue ,and if its OK with them to do it,you can always order dessert items and have them set up for a buffet. Problem solved!

Cake should be just fine. I had both the cake and dessert buffet and most people had the dessert buffet but that was because it was available throughout the reception. But it took away from the cake. Cake should have been the only thing provided since it was the most expensive.

If you love the venue, you should have your wedding there! Don’t skip out on it because of the dessert table. I am a happy guest with just some yummy wedding cake!

Cake = dessert. Who has room for multiple desserts anyway? The venue sounds lovely.

Maybe if your set on doing a dessert buffet, you could hire a baker to come in with a table and set some other options up, but if your not set on it, Cake works, it’s easy and it’s included. You love the place I say done deal.

I don’t think your reception would be lacking without the dessert buffet. Just having cake is perfectly fine!
But, you should put some thought into if YOU’D be sad with out the dessert buffet. If the answer is ‘yes’, then keep looking. If it’s not that important to you personally, keep the location!
Congrats on a successful day of venue looking!
