Have you booked anything yet? If not, I would suggest you go the all inclusive resort route... They did all the planning at no extra charge and the planners are employees of the hotel, so they were not trying to jack up the prices, and they had to do a good job to keep the hotel's good reputation and get more clients.
It made things really, really easy for us - easier than planning a wedding at home.
We havent booked anything yet. We fell in love with this beach club on the island and so we decided to do it there. It may be more trouble than what its worth though...
Did you ask your resort if they had an on-site wedding planner since you are obviously having your ceremony and reception on their resort? They must have a person in charge of helping you coordinate a wedding.
@lovebird: We werent planning on doing it on a resort. Its just a beach club that we can rent out, so sadly we have to contract someone on our own
I see. Is there anyone that the beach club can recommend since I'm assuming they've had other weddings there right? Things will run more smoothly if the WC is familiar with the venue. Or ask other vendors (ie. photographer) you are booking who they recommend.
If you go with an all inclusive resort, the wedding planner comes with the wedding package. It really does make things much, much easier.
Can you try www.destinationweddings.com? They are travel agents/wedding planners and they don't charge you. They require a $50 deposit that goes towards your wedding package.

We are having a destination wedding in Mexico and have been looking to hire a wedding planner to help us, since we are so far away. The only problem is we are having a hard time finding an honest wedding planner out there :(
I have done a ton of research on the location we are having the wedding and have gotten quotes from several vendors. The first wedding planner we found was charging a coordination fee ($2500) plus quoting us more than what the vendors were actually charging (anywhere from $200-$1500 more
)
I understand that they get paid to do this and I dont mind paying for their services, but I honestly feel like I have been lied to because they are trying to make more money. This has been making me sick to my stomach because I feel like maybe we made the wrong decision in having a DW. I dont think I can do it all myself...
Does anyone have any advice to offer?
