hello my crafty bees
we are getting married in jamaica (montego bay – woohoo!) in november 2015. next weekend is our engagement party and my mom had asked me to make one of those pinteresty blackboard signs that gives a timeline of our relationship up until we got engaged.
my FSIL was over a few days ago and saw it and said “imagine if you had your wedding here?! it would be so adorable with all of the DIY things you could do!” and this made me SO SAD because we actually have a lot of time between now and the wedding, so i actually could make lots of stuff…
but then i got thinking… could i just bring an extra suitcase or two with decor and little extra touches for the wedding? did anyone else do this?
thanks for any ideas you have! xo

MrsMcQN: You need to check the customs regulations for Jamaica as they do charge duty and taxes for things brought into the country. Are you working with a local wedding planner? or someone connected to the resort? They should be able to pint you in the right direction.

I’m bringing an entire suitcase of decorations to my destination wedding in Spain! Paper lanterns, little extras for the tables, solar lanterns, a DIY wedding arch, garlands, and even lots of things from our home(nice wooden signs we’ve picked up over the years, candle holders), I think it’s worth it to add our own stamp to the ceremony and reception(& also because wedding planners who could arrange all the decor for us cost a fortune!). I agree with pp to contact the resort where you’re having your wedding and see if they can help, we didn’t have that option as our wedding is at a private residence. I’m sure you can still take a few DIY/personal things over in your suitcase though as long as they don’t contain any materials which might need to be declared to customs(ie shells, untreated wood or plant materials).

I saw go ahead and ask, you may have more options than you think! We’re also planning for a DIY wedding, but we’re still finding little ways to add in our own DIY, like bringing our own china (thankfully it’s a very small guest list), centerpieces and “boquets” for the bridesmaids. I think it’s definitely worth it to try to find little spots where you can add your own personal touches. After all, this is YOUR wedding, not Generic Destination Wedding #437.

LudaRae: That’s exactly what i’m doing. Is your wedding going to be a private couples only or do you have guests attending? My wedding is going to be in the Maldives, so it will just be my fiance and I since its too far to travel for our friends/family. Do you have a Pinterest board of your DIY items for your wedding? I’d love to see it! 🙂 You can check mine out here http://www.pinterest.com/julialane87/
