My fiance hired out wedding coordinater. We live 3 hours from our wedding location, so having her there to do the footwork has been great. We've only met once, so we're in the same boat as you. Basically, he called the girl, she sent him the contract, we reviewed and sent back. Up until last month we did all of our planning through emails.
I say it's probably fine to ask both of them for contracts and then decide from there if that's what your deciding factor is. I would say personality and vision is the most important qualities, but that's my opinion. If they seem equal there, go for it.
I would suggest calling each of them up and having a conversation about your visions with them. Pick the one you click the best with and can see where you are trying to go.
Also, it is very smart of you to get a DOC for a destination wedding! That is the one thing I wish I had done!

I'm in the process of hiring a DOC for a wedding that is ~4hr drive away. There are two candidates that I'm considering. How should I go about choosing one over the other?
They both seem fine price-wise and based on the limited email correspondence that I have had. None of them have yet to draft up a contract for me. I told them that I would provide a more detail list of responsibilities for them b4 they draft up contract for me (so the contract price accurately reflects the things they will promise 2 do for me). Does that seem like an ok procedure? Should I just look at the contract and decide which 1 to choose? or should I choose 1 and only ask 1 to draft up a contract for me to review?
I'm just being lazy and don't want to drive 4 hr twice (once to meet b4 choosing a DOC and another to meet after a DOC is chosen). If possible, I would just want to meet once: with the chosen DOC to go over the details of the big day. Any idea/comments about this process for a destination wedding?
