    Hi there,

First, I just want to say how excited I am to be able to post this help request on Weddingbee!  I've waited so long for this moment!

My fiance and I just got engaged over the Memorial day weekend and I need help.  I've always wanted to get married in a church - older churches with high ceilings, stained glass, etc.; but my fiance desires a simpler destination wedding on a beach (or mountain tops, etc.).  We both want the destination ceremony to be a big vacation for our close friends and family, and since we are paying for it, we want to be "cost effective"...

Can you recommend any resorts/beaches/destinations that have a local church where we might be able to hold a ceremony then hold a reception at a resort?  I no longer seek a big church, it'd be nice, but I wouldn't mind a smaller, cute church...

Thanks so much and hope to hear from you soon!

Congratulations on your engagement! I live in South Carolina and one of my very favorite vacation spots is Charleston SC. There is something for everyone there....beach, history, resorts, shopping, golf, and loads of southern charm. Make sure you look at Kiawah Island too. I have been to some awesome weddings there and highly recommend checking it out.

I'm with you Jdelaney..but I also love St. Simon's Island GA and also Jekyll Island too.  Very laid back island feel and there's a small chapel onsite at the Jekyll Island Club fyi..

Oh and one more place comes to mind. Have you been to Hilton Head Island in SC? There is a great resort just outside of town that is so romantic and would be a great wedding spot. The chapel on the property is my dream location for a wedding. Here is the link. http://www.palmettobluffresort.com/events/weddings/

Congratulations!  We got engaged at this time last year :)

If you're interested in a mountain venue, there are some beautiful quaint churches in the lake Tahoe area.  There's Our Lady of the Snows at Squaw Valley, and several others.  Otherwise, on the West Coast you might want to check out the Mendicino/Fort Bragg area.  My sister got married there and it was beautiful.

you might think about a wedding in san juan, puerto rico. definitely a destination wedding, great beaches, plus i'm sure there are lots of churches. and it's in the us (if there are passport concerns) but still a bit exotic.
