@Brightie:  I was considering the same thing, but ultimately decided to do something a little larger closer to home and then take a fabulous honeymoon! 🙂

Not sure whether this would interest you, but we were pretty set on doing our destination (if we’d opted for that) in France because we LOVE France and surprisingly, weddings are much, much cheaper there.  There are a number of lovely venues in many of France’s regions.  Here are a few I was considering:

(1) Le Manoir d’Hautegente in the Dordogne region (southwest France) – http://www.manoir-hautegente.com/uk/index.php   I love love love the Dordogne, and this little b ‘n’ b is stunning.

(2) Chateau de la Treyne also in the Dordogne – it’s a Relais Chateau, so you can rest assured it will be nice even if you can’t make it over there to check it out first.

(3) Les Jardins du Manoir d’Eyrignac also in the Dorodgone – these gardens are goregous…I fell in love with them when I was there, AND their venue fee is only 2500 Euros, including tables, chairs, plates, etc.

(4) Chateau de la Chevre d’Or on the Cote d’Azur – located in the beautiful village of Eze, this hotel dramatically hangs off a cliff that plummets into the Mediterranean.  It would be perfect for a small wedding.

Anyway, just some thoughts – hope these help!!
