Looking for any advice on planning a destination wedding. We are thinking of a July 2015 wedding in Punta Cana, I have never been and well he’s been to a crappy one. With it being less than I year away I just can’t decide how to pick a resort that not only we will love but our guest as well and one that won’t hurt their pockets too much.. Any advice is appreciated.

Look for a Destination Wedding Planner in your city that specializes in Punta Cana… they’re worth their weight in gold because they specialize in certain places so they know vendors, places to be married, the marriage laws in that country (HUGE ISSUE, make sure you look into), and can usually get a decent cost for the entire thing because its all done in one place!

Trip Advisor is your friend for researching hotels.

LyndaButterfly: Trip advisor is what has me so confused it seems like a lot of the resorts are hit or miss some absolutely love the resort while others were dying to get out of the resort.

joacevedo15: Oh man! I would really look at the general popularity. Don’t pick the absolute best and absolute worst reviews. Especially if they seem to be kind of odd ball reviews.
I use trip advisor a lot. Pretty much for every single time I book a vacation or hotel. I used it for my destination wedding too. It wasn’t the DR.
What we found was handy is that my fiancé and I sat down and picked a budget as to how much we were willing to pay per person, including hotel and flight. We looked at all inclusive resort packages.
We then made a list of what was absolutely required in a hotel For us it was a nice beach, away from the downtown, good food with no meal restrictions, plenty of variety of things to do and the possibility of a non-beachwedding.
Armed with this info, I researched some hotels myself. I also went to a travel agent to help narrow down the possibilities. That helped a lot. I didn’t book anything, I went home and did more research on the costs of these places for certain dates and their reviews again.
Once I narrowed it down to two places, I contacted the resorts myself to inquire about wedding package availablilty.
We did end up purchasing our all inclusive package with a TA but I managed to find a cheaper deal with the same flights and dates and the TA matched this.
I did book at the wedding stuff myself with the wedding coordinators at the resort but my TA was very helpful in getting a quicker answer when the coordinators were unresponsive.
Hope that helps!
