My fiance and I are looking at having a destination wedding, in Tulum, Mexico. We may chose to hold it elsewhere in the Yucatan, maybe Mahuhaul. Every place I have contacted requires we book the entire hotel for at least 4 nights. These places have on average about 20 rooms and the whole place would be anywhere 8-12k, just for the lodging. The wedding will probably be family and our closet friends so there is a chance we would have enough people to fill *most* of the rooms. The problem is I wanted to give everyone the option to pick where they wanted to stay to fit everyone’s budget. We decided on Mexico becuase the wedding prices for my hometown in Florida are expensive and having a Chicago wedding (where we live now) is just not in our budget.
For those that have had destination weddings, how is lodging typically arranged? Do you pay the difference for whatever rooms are not booked by your guests?
