There are different ways to do a DW, It sounds like you want to go through a resort and they could arrange everything (and if you go this route I would recommend getting the basics with them) but as your questioning pricing I would make sure you try and get a list of pricing for EVERYTHING because they might try and sting you with extra costs like flowers and tiny little details that could bump the price tag up this is what put us of going through a resort . Just so you know before you book anything you don’t have to go through a resort some people choose to rent a villa and throw the wedding themselves. A lot of the arrangements depend on your budget, any special requirements (kids disabilities etc), wether or not you will be paying for your guests, the type/style of wedding dress you have (transport), what kind of food you want (we are just buying some frozen pizzas for the kids at are wedding), what atmosphere you want the wedding to have (casual, formal, beach, vintage) if you would elaborate on what kind of type of wedding you wish to host. In answer to invitations I would say save the dates are important in DW and the latest you can send these out is around 7 months before the wedding.

  • Wedding: April 2015 - Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana

@MrsBlake2015:  We are getting married at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana. We want to keep the planning to a minimum. They have really great and super inclusive packages for ceremony and receptions. We are opting to utilize everything that our resort has to offer us, including photographers. I have recently heard of someone bringing in their own photographer from home. I can only imagine the cost and difficulty in finding someone to travel that far.

I will say I did look into Dreams. I did recieve a lot of information from them when I asked (just send their event planning department an email inquiering about pricing and wedding packages) I can’t remember why we didn’t choose Dreams specifically, but I can say that Hard Rock fit all of our family needs beautifully.

As far as Invites etc. I am sending out our save the dates by the end of Feb. that will be 18 months before the wedding. I will also have our wedding website listed on our Save the Dates so that our guests can check up periodically and get all the information that they need (also to post photos while we are away for anyone who couldnt make it). I am planning on sending out the official invites 1 year in advance. This might sound bad but we have 2 sets of guest lists! so if we have some declines we can send out more invites 10-11 months in advance. We only want 30 guests the first round is only family and Maid of honor and Best Man. The second round of invites are some friends.

Good luck

Edit: The way our package works (and all resorts are different) is our wedding package includes all the ceremony decor photo music and dinner reception for 30 (i beleive its maybe $20 per extra person). Based on the number of rooms or room nights booked we qualify for different PRIVATE functions. so right now we qualify for a private 1 hr cocktail party and a private 1 hr  dinner. The more you book the more free stuff the Bride and Groom get! Also the Groom gets a complimentary seperate room the night before the wedding. Again based on how many nights are booked we as the bride and groom receive free nights. so right now it looks like we will have 6 nights free.

@Aamitchell51:  It sounds like your planning is going off without a hitch! I saw that you mentioned that the cost would be insane to bring someone with your as your photographer. You would actually be suprised that its not as crazy as you think. I am a photographer and my husband does video and we actually have packages that include both services AND travel Fees. Its becoming more popular to bring us with because many brides and grooms have a hard time trusting vendors from another country and I totally get that! Its just something to think about as an option (and something that destination brides seem to not realize or forget) 🙂

@Hb7503:  So Far so good for us! I have to say that we are geneally easy going people so I think being able to “roll with the punches” and having a 5 year engagement has made this pretty easy for us!

I will have to look into this traveling photographer thing! The photos are a critical part to a successful destination wedding. We have a large group of friends and family that will not be invited. I think having plenty of fantastic photos could help save us from the impending scrutany from some of our family and friends.

  • Wedding: Dreams Resort and Spa, Puerto Aventuras, Mexico

We’re having ours at Dreams Puerto Aventuras, and so far it’s been a great planning experience! The prices don’t include the room stay, so that is extra. The package includes 20 guests, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have more. You just have to pay for them (we will have 35-40). Each resort charges differently, so ask your coordinator what the charge is for guests over what is included. We sent out save-the-dates in January (11 months in advance) and just mailed our invitations at the 6 month mark.
