Hi! Attempting to find a place in the Riviera Maya area of Mexico for a destination wedding. I have had my mind set on Azul Fives, but I stumble upon negative reviews here and there. I have read that the beach is very rocky and not a place for anyone to walk out in to. There will be about 50 of us, and it will be a kid friendly wedding. Has anyone had a destination wedding in the area? Any insight would be helpful!!

I’ve been to a destination wedding in that area, but the hotel restaurant blew up a few months after the wedding… so I wouldn’t go to that one in particular.
However I have stayed at lots of RIU’s and they are all amazing. Especially the RIU Palace on the ocean in the Riviera Maya. Very nice, five minute walk to Playa del Carmen.

@lacyj1106: While I haven’t been here myself, my FMIL went to a destination wedding at The Beloved in Riviera Maya and she came back and raved and raved about it. They are a kid friendly hotel and she said it was gorgeous and the accommodations were spectacular. It has great reviews. Worth looking into!
We’re actually going to their sister hotel The Excellence (adults only) for our honeymoon. They also have great reviews.
Good luck and happy planning! 🙂

I haven’t been yet BUT we’re getting married in the area soon. We’re going to the Ocean Coral & Turquesa. All the reviews I was able to find were favourable. Also, we’re using a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings- she has sent people here that we’re very happy with it. (I believe her too, she has been absolutely excellent.) Our wedding will be about 40 people including us.

Funny, I just posted about this on another thread, but I LOVED the Excellence (Riveria Cancun) when I went with FI a few years ago. We didn’t attend a wedding there but there was one going on while we stayed and it looked absolutely beautiful. The hotel is adults-only though, but the beach there is gorgeous so if you’re looking at a place near there it should be great.

I’m looking at Sandos Playacar .. I stayed there two years ago and loved it. Every day there was a wedding on the beach and it was beautiful.

I just got married this past June in the Riviera Maya. We we’re married at the Barcelo Maya Resort.
There’s 5 sections to the Resort ranging from 4 star(Beach/Caribe), 4.5 star(Colonial/Tropical) to 5 star(Palace). We were married at the Tropical (4.5 star) and it was amazing!
We wanted to stay at the palace but some of our friends an family couldnt afford the group rate of the palace so we stepped down one level. No matter where you stay on the resort you can have your wedding anywhere – so if you stay at the Beach on the cheaper end(still nice, you can get married at th epapalce if you wish.
If you have any question about the resort, let me know – I’d be happy to help! =)
PS – Barcelo is very kid friendly, theres a kids club and kids pool/splashpark etc. It’s also not over run with kids, meaning you dont feel like your trip is all about kids. The resort does a great job of balancing family vacation with adult luxury.

@lacyj1106: there are a lot of hotels along that coast that are fabulous. we have a house only 3 hours from there so we are there often.
we have been to many resorts in the riviera maya and cancun and i would suggest the now jade. we have been there 2x. once on our first trip together and then last year for our mini-moon. they average 60 weddings/month so they know what they are doing. when i was there last year, we witnessed a lot of weddings (different locations throughout the resort). i also had the opportunity to talk with some of the brides themselves. they raved about the communication and service. not one bad comment.
@Fizzy8: i’ve been there a few times and really enjoyed it. this resort has a great layout and lots of dining options. we loved mike’s coffee house.
@honie309: i was at that resort a 5 years ago (before the explosion).

I attended a wedding at Dreams Tulum and it was AWESOME. So awesome that my BF (at the time) decided that he wanted a DW. We did end up having a DW a few years later and went with another resort within the Dreams brand group (Now) and it was great too.
