Guys, you know I love ya, but no need to be mean. You can’t blame her for trying. If I didn’t already have one DW wedding for next year I’d have considered it because I’m trying to break into the DW market more. She just needs to be super choosy with anyone who replies to her on here. At the very least she’ll probably get an email from the Burks. They’ll pretty much solicit for anything they see come up on here.

I’d do it, but how legit is this? I get spam emails all the time to travel to destinations for weddings…

@PassionatePhotoLady:  LOL at the Burks comment . . . I take issue with photographers who use this community to get work. I go out of my way to avoid revealing my identity and give advice freely so I’m irked when vendors are able to get away with promoting themselves here.

@mariematt:  like once in a blue moon I’ll PM someone I think is a really good fit for us (maybe like 5 in the last 5 years?) but if you check the support boards the burks have actually gotten a TON of complaints from or soliciting brides via PM on this site. I think it’s completely inappropriate. I don’t know how they haven’t been banned.

@PassionatePhotoLady:  Id consider it as well for the same reason and hey, I’ll take a four day! However, its Mexico and people just have way to many issues shooting there… Last time I traveled there I was sexually assaulted by workers on a snorkel trip!! Ive lost my interest in Mexico although I loved the weather! I dont blame one for asking, Im betting they had many replies from lurkers! lol

The problem with many dw “vacation weddings” is that you show up on day 1 pooped. Day 2 they want to to cover the rehearsal. Day three is the wedding. Day four people want an after session. Then you leave. Not really a “vacation”. I’d rather get paid for shooting a wedding and take an actual vacation. maybe try Fred Miranda?

I suspect you weren’t planning to pay the sort of air fare it’d cost you to have me.

Especially since you’d need to arrange my B1 visa too.  Wink

Just out of interest, why would anyone call their business “Meet The Burks”? The one word it conjured up immediately was “Fockers”

i have heard of people looking to add DW to their portfolios so it’s not impossible

OP i think you need to be specific as to what yiou want – that they turn up on the saturday and do the whole wedding, with the other days as free time?

or like pp said, that they do rehearsal dinner day before, wedding, TTD…in which case its working every day with no free time

Just to be clear, destination weddings are never any part vacation. If there are days before they are full of travel/logistical planning/scouting things out/inevitably meeting with clients/charging batteries/cleaning gear and the day or days after you are wiped out from shooting and have to be constantly concerned about the safety of all your gear and the memory cards that now hold the wedding you just shot. There are also a lot of costs that a new photographer isn’t going to realize – food, luggage fees, transportation around the destination, INSURANCE which will cost you extra to cover you out of the country, etc. It’s never a vacation.

@mariematt:  exactly. It’s no vacation. Just four days away from the office where I can’t get paid to work. I’ll only do a dw that books my biggest package!
