Have you already booked this location and you're just going to see it, or are you still looking at other places too?
We havent booked it yet, but I am set on it. We are doing a vintage wedding and the ancient ruins they have their are to die for. So I am sold! ha. We are going to book it while we are there.
Then they should have a list of things to go over with you like:
deposit (when they are due and how much)
cancellation fee
what do you do if it rains/hurricane etc
discounts on rooms
free room nights for the groom/bride
discounts on activities
flowers
food
alcohol
contract language
officiant
what you need legally to get married
I'm sure I can keep going :)
I'm checking out my DW location soon too...though I don't have a coordinator, I'll still be asking the venue questions..definitely on the top of my list are:
-What can they going to do for you (decorating, etc.)..so you know what you'll have to cover day-of on your end.
-names and numbers of any contacts you'll need (head caterer, florist, etc.)
-Timeline (for example, my H&M decided through email what time they'd be prepping me day-of, but they didn't know that I planned on pictures before the ceremony, so I have to get the contract changed for them to arrive earlier.)
(Also..for coordinators, I hear you can ship decorations and such to them beforehand, which could be really useful..less things to have to cart over on the plane.)
What is your venue? I'm getting married in Jamaice this January, originally scheduled for Negril, but relocated to Runaway Bay/Trewlawny much to my chagrin. I'd love to hear about your ruins! It sounds great!
how great that you're doing a site visit! We are planning our wedding in Tulum Mexico, site unseen. but I feel confident that we chose the perfect locale!
I found a great online resource for DW planning called beachweddingplanning.com. There's a guide/ notebook thing you can download for like 10 bucks, it has a budget planner, checklists for everything, as well as a "what should I ask the resort wedding coordinator" section that sounds like it would be helpful for you. There's lots of wedding guides around, but most don't have DW specific info. Here's the link if you're interested:

Mindy Weiss's wedding planning book has a special section on DW's and has iteneraries on what to take care of on your planning visits.
I went on a planning trip in June, and it helped for me to have an idea of what I wanted my wedding to be like that way when you are meeting with the vendors, you are not wasting time trying to figure out colors, flowers, etc. I took clippings from magazines and prints from websites with me in a binder, that way you vendors get a feel for your taste and vision. I did not have my entire wedding planned either, just ideas which the vendors helped me shape with their experience and knowledge.

Hey Bee's!
My fiance and I have booked a trip to Jamaica to meet with our wedding coordinator and see the resort/wedding locations for our April 2011 wedding ( :( so far away!).
I am not sure what questions I should be asking....any suggestions?
Anyone that has had a destination wedding, wish they asked certain questions?
I just need to put a list together to take with me. I am sure once I get there, my excitement will take over and I wont remember anything to ask! :) ha
