I have always wanted a very small, but still very nice wedding. Looking around I am noticing so many places where I live (NC) have crazy minimums, or guest requirements etc. I never thought I would want a destination wedding but it is looking better and better.
I pretty much don’t know anything about destination weddings. I have researched online and found some amazing packages, and deals but I am skeptical ( of course the company is going to try to sell it to you) So I wanted to hear your personal experiences with destination weddings. Whether it be your own, or someone elses.
Are most things planned for you, custimization options, good customer service, is it too touristy, did you feel everything was perfect, etc.
We are open to anywhere and don’t really have a specific place in mind as of this moment.
Any advice, experiences, or opinions would be GREATLY appreciated.

- Wedding: October 2013 - Tybee Island, GA
I had a small (20ppl) wedding in Tybee Island (about 4 hours away from where i live).
I went through my wedding planner he gave me choices and i chose and he hired everyone! Guitarist, pastor, set up/take down crew, flowers, photog/videog, beach permits, chair rentals, hair, makeup, limo. And he gave me an estimate, and we paid him for everything, and then he paid all the vendors. And then we spoke to the seperate vendors with what we wanted. The only thing he didnt take care of was the reception (which we just had at the beach house we rented for the weekend, and it gave us the chance to help plan. lol) our whole wedding day went amazingly smooth. I have (however) had some problems with my videographer, but other than that everything else was perfect. Just talk to different wedding planners and see what all they have to offer and get to know them and then choose.
having a wedding planner and a DW with only 20 ppl saved us alot of stress and money, and we wouldnt have done it any other way. (well besides my videographer… lol)
Good luck bee!

Go to Vegas! They have AWESOME wedding packages when you have small numbers of guests. Some of them made me wish I was only having a few people along.

@Merinda1994: oooh you could do Outer Banks beach wedding! Its destination but still reasonable to drive there. It is just so gorgeous I dont know why you’d fly to an island else where!

@MrsBuesleBee: I never really thought of that, I live in coastal NC about 15 mins away from topsail and about 2 hours from the outer banks!

@Merinda1994: You don’t need to use a company unless you want to. I planned a DW in the USA from Australia myself. It wasn’t hard at all.
My biggest tip is to lower your expectations for guests. Even people extremely close to you (parents, siblings, best & close friends) may not be able tomake it for various reasons (leave, finances etc). You can’t be upset with them because you chose to get married so far away.
Also expect everyone to get excited and say they wouldn;t miss it and then back out when the invites go out. People always have best intentions but then life gets in the way.
I would make a list of the things that you must have in your wedding. If it is a beach look for great beaches, if it’s your best friend to attend then look at places that are affordable to that person. Once you have your list then use it to narrow down locations.
