i am posting to get input. the ring I really want is the Tiffany novo shaped cushion with a cathedral band. My boyfriend has decided that he wants to make the ring himself with the sand casting method. So we have to buy the diamond loose. I was looking at photos of the cushion 1-1.8tcw and I’m having trouble trying to decide what size. My ring finger is a 6-6.5.
Have any of you had your ring made the sand casting method? Any advice on diamond size?

Welcome to the hive!!
So you’re looking only at cushion cuts? The first thing you need to check are the actual dimensions of the stone. A deep 1.5ct stone can face up smaller than a shallow 1ct so if its face up size you’re comparing, get the dimensions rather than the carat weight. My cushion stone is a 1.23 with 67% depth and for my 6.5 finger it was good coverage for me (still waiting for the actual ring). Its 5.8mmx5.8mm.
Also, are you concerned about clarity, colour and cut? If the stones are graded then you should be able to compare these readily and consider then depending on your priorities.
What I did though when we were choosing because we bought online was made little paper cut outs of the dimensions of different stones to compare on my finger 🙂

go try some different sizes at a store! It’ll help when you see them on your finger.
