@carah2520:  you may see a difference between the moissy and the diamond side stones.  in that case, it won’t pass as a diamond.

Here is what I’ve been looking at. This uber pricey ring is by Harry Winston. I’ve asked hubby (this is for an anniversary gift) to order a 9×7 oval FB centerstone and this setting From moissaniteco.com: http://www.moissaniteco.com/baguette-moissanite-engagement-ring-setting-036ct-p-5092:9b7619fe9f56b747238e2ec0f79519f0.html

I don’t think they have Amora stones in the oval shape in stock right now. There seems to be a wait list until February 2014.

Uh oh – some of the bees get really up in arms about passing moissies off as diamonds. Just a head’s up. There are TONS of threads with moissies in them if you do a quick search on the side. Good luck!

Depending on how large the side stones are, you are likely to see the difference between the moissanite and the diamonds if you go with a moissanite centre stone.  While  they share similarities, they also have several (quite visually obvious) differences.  If you truly want a moissanite centre, I’d suggest keeping the side stones moissanite as well and using your grandmothers’ diamonds for earrings….I know you plan to use them in the ring but I think it would be obvious that the stones are not the same material so I’d stick to all diamond or all moissanite.  Just my opinion 🙂

I have both a diamond and a moissy, and they behave differently depending on light conditions. I second PPs that said you should keep all stones the same kind if possible, although depending on the cut and size of your side stones, it might look ok.

Perhaps use her stones to make a custom wedding band? And keep the moisy separate. I agree that the stone look very different and putting them side by side in a setting my highlight the differences and not give the cohesive look that you want.

I will show my mossy FB 2ctw (on size 5 finger) FB Mossy- Amora’s were sold out at the time.  I love it but next to a diamond, esp. a larg diamond it doesn’t “pass,” you can see color in the pictures.

How big are the side stones, I think more than .5ctw wouldn’t look cohesive.

Asha CZ (someone correct me if this is not accurate) is a CZ with a diamond coating and about same price as mossy and I believe is more “passable.”  I am not 100% on this, but when I looked at them, they don’t last/hold up as long as mossy’s so some people get them as stand in rings.  Once again someone else can tell you more it’s been a while and I am fuzzy on the details.

I I have a moissy center stone, 2.25 ct, and I personally didn’t care for how my diamond band matched color wise. I have tried several so I agree that maybe stick with moissy side stones. Make a pair  of earrings or rhr.

You would definitely notice the difference, especially in certain lighting, but if you had an enhanced moissy, most likely nobody else would.

That being said I definitely encourage you to not try to pass it off as a diamond! You can always tell people you have a diamond and moissy ring! Be proud of doing something a little bit different.

I have a 2 ct diamond. I echo the opinions of PP’s. You will be able to tell the difference with the diamonds next to the moissy.

If you are setting it with diamonds, I would pic diamond center probably.  The colour difference is going to be noticable, imo, unless your diamonds are rather warm.  I love the oval cut in moissy!!!  But I think you will see a colour difference.

@futuremrsk18:  thanks. I wasn’t saying to pass it off as a diamond. OP wanted setting ideas, so I was sending one over. I’ve seen all of the drama about simulants vs drama on the site. I’ve been lurking, but not posting for awhile. I’ll try to keep my nose clean and stay out of trouble 🙂

@Sirenbee87:  I meant that for the OP, since I saw she only had 1 post! Sorry for the confusion. I personally don’t care if someone wants to pass off a moissy as a diamond. It really doesn’t hurt me if they do that lol, so I don’t know why people get so up in arms about it, but they do! lol
